Questions on small touch panels and screens.

Currently I am a huge Lilliput Fan, specifically the EBY701, My setup currently has 3 of them. I was thinking of buying 2 more for my center console in the back. Here i'll explain why:

I currently have a 15 inch screen in the back, it is not a touchscreen. The rear seats were having to use hand held remotes, which were trouble some, because if I were to touch a screen in the front, they would have to move the cursor from that screen to their screen. That is very annoying. I was thinking of putting one screen for the 3rd row at reachable level and the 2nd rows would be built into the arm rest, that way the screen would immediately end up were they should be. Basically rather then have them as screens, they will act as large touch pads for the 15 inch so they know what their doing. I am really hesitant in putting two 7 inch screens for this.

Does anyone know of any cheap 3.5 touch screens that arent over $180.00 dollars? Also is there such a thing as a touch screen but isnt in color, kinda like a dot matrix type set up, were I would see a basic idea to know were on the 15 inch the cursor should be? Should I just go head and go with the Lilliputs and drop my concerns? I am also worried that if I use the Lilliputs the viewing angel will be hard to see from the side.

Also is there a posibilaty I can simply use a touch kit but with no screen? Do you think that will work? I think it might, but they would have to try to associate the blank pad with the 15 inch.

Please ideas wanted!

Well I think I have solved my issue. I think I will just make the 15 inch flip down, into a 15 inch flip down with a touchscreen. Dont know why I didnt think of that first. That way I only need a lilliput for the back (third row).

I do have a question though. My screen is 15.4, but I cant seem to find touch kits for that size, and the ones I do are all in China. Is there any other more common size I can use?

I know this is so anti-american, lol, but I decided to email a company that manufactueres 15.4 touch screens. They are located in China. He was very nice and quoted me $24.00 for the touch panel, and $7.00 for the USB controller. That is insanely cheap!!!!!!!! The one I found for general sale was from a company called magictouch, they sold theirs for $209.00 dollars!!!!!!!!!

One thing I do not get is he keeps saying it is for 16:9 aspect ratio, what does that mean!

16:9 width to height aspect ratio is wide-screen format. I'm guessing your 15.4" screen is probably 4:3 like most laptop/computer screens.

Anyway, your setup is giving me screen envy.

16:9 is widescreen. *actually a 15.4" screen should be 16:10, but I see this misquoted frequently.* 4:3 is a normal squarish screen.

what's the site you contacted? *feel free to pm me if you don't want to advertise.*

I think you have it backwards...... Most newer Laptop screens I see are 16:9, if they are 4:3, then they are usually just 15". Here is a picture of it. The screen I bought was made for movies in the car, it just so happened to come with a VGA port. Here is the link were I bought it. http://http://www.gooddeals18.com/pr...w_IR__vga.html

Who knows though, I could be wrong. It doesnt list it anywhere on the screen and what not. Only thing I can do is buy it, try it, and hope it fits. I have already bought the touch screen USB controller, but I had to drop the company I was going with, he kept insisting I pay with Western Union. I got this USB controller from ebay for $11.67, which isnt bad at all. The touch screen though is going to run me $115.00, but that includes shipping and I can pay with PayPal. I guess you pay more for sense of security .

You envy the screens now, but when you see all that was required to get them to work, you'll easily back out. The main screen (driver middle screen) was easy, connected from VGA port on the MoBo to the screen. The 2 top screens and rear screen were a nightmare though. First off, my MoBo uses a DVI-D port, which means those regular DVI to VGA adapters do not work. I had to buy a adapter for $115.00 that converts the screen itself to DVI-D, there is no way to convert DVI-D to VGA on the MoBo. Then I had to buy a powered VGA splitter, which wouldnt work without the wall plug, so I had to buy an inverter for it. Then I had to run the thick cable through my dash and roof. Although it all isnt finished, I am happy with it in the end. Thankfully when I bought the VGA splitter I some how felt I was going to add more screens so I left a port open.

OK I confirmed it, if you go to the link were they sell the screen, click and enlarge the picture with the box, it lists the screens stats, which says Display Format: 16:9.
