use of TFT screen from a notebook ?
Hi there,
I also want to build a computer in to my car. But because i've got a rather small car and it is already stuffed full wit LPG, and ice i have chosen for a notebook.
The big idea was ; put the notebook somewhere in the car, and connect a mouse and keyboard from another nothbook and built it in, in the drivers-... (the thing on top of your front window, that hides the sun so she won't shine in your eyes.)(Sorry for the bad englisch, i try the best i can.)
and (the same thing ) on the passengers side i wanted to put a tft screen from another notebook.
My question is it possible to connect the working tft from an old notebook to a newer notebook ?
In your eyes this is maybe a stupid question, but i really don't know and i want to learn something about it.

Welcome to www.mp3car.com!!!
Good luck building your system! your idea is a good starting point... but it will not work*
Use the "search" on this site to learn more about why...
(no reason to have another thread explaining all the details when all the information already exists on the site already, right?)
Best of luck!
* you can do this... but it will cost you over $300, and it will take a lot of time... and a lot of electronics knowldege & skill. your best bet is just to buy another vga/rca monitor

It wont work to use an lcd from an old laptop. it is virtually impossible to interface with a laptop lcd, unless its in the laptop that its supposed to be with.
If you want to use a different external LCD screen, with either VGA, or TV in, you could use that with your laptop, if the laptop has VGA out.

not true...
this topic has been discussed on many occasions here. it is possible, with the right controller card for the screen. but cards are expensive and difficult to find for single purchases.

Hey there, first of all, thanks for the reply's.
The controller card, that is in the notebook. Its plugged on the motherboard. but it has a lot of pins, and the vga output only has 15 pins ??????? How the .... i'm gonna connect it?
I've been browsing arround, and i've noticed that there are many posts, that say that it's or, impossible, or verry difficult, so i don't give up yet, but i gather som more information.
In the mean time i wan't to cut al the wires between the controller card and the screen, connect a cable between the wires i have cut, put the display on my sunscreen and my notebook somewhere out of sight.
My next question ; what is the maximum length of the connection between MB and tft ??
I hope i get some responses on this question to.
Because , in Belgium (where i'm from,),i've never have seen a tuned car with a computer inside it, so i don't know where to get information about everything , besides this place.
If anybody got some usefull links for me, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Greetz eR!K.
