Unhappy Lilliput EBY701 no image; Screen shows video mode for split second, then nothing.

I have done some extensive searching and haven't found a case quite like mine.

I recently got a Lilliput EBY701 from a friend and have been trying to set it up. My friend didn't give me the AC adapter, so I used the cigarette adapter w/ line filter to power it on. The cigarette adapter has a 2 amp fuse which blew out when I turned on the monitor. I went to Frys and got an adjustable AC adapter do get the 12V DC straight from the wall. The unit now powers on, but there is no image being received from the computer. The buttons light up and the POWER button shows a blue light (not blue and purple). The touch drivers work as I can move the mouse on my laptop screen and it beeps when i touch it. I adjusted the resolution settings to 800 x 600 and 800 x 480 at both 60 and 75 Hz with no luck.

One more thing, when i first power on the touchscreen, it flashes for less than a split second, displays the video mode (PC/VIDEO 1/ VIDEO 2) in the corner for about .25 seconds, then goes black. I think the screen is still good cause it can display SOMETHING, but just not the VGA signal.confused:

I have ordered a replacement cable to verify that my cable isn't bad, I suppose it could also be a fuse on the board, but if that were the case I would think the screen wouldn't show the video mode. I will also check the ribbon cable tonight to make sure the connection is good. I have checked the polarity on the adapter and it is correct.

Does anyone have any other ideas of what to check?

OH! Also, if the AC adapter is plugged into the wall and i plug the connector into the panel, it sparks. That can't be good, but if this tips off some electrical whiz out there as to what the problem is, let me know!:

Fixed the problem!

As it turns out, the problem was not in the LCD, but in the user! I didn't have the original AC wall adapter and I had burnt out the fuse in the car adapter. I bought a selectable voltage adapter at the store and being the cheap SOB that I am, bought the cheapest one they had.

After 3 days of aggravation, I replaced the fuse in the car adapter and the screen powered on without a problem! It then occurred to me to check the AC adapter and sure enough, it maxed out at 500 mA. Had I used my engineering knowledge that I paid to obtain, I could have done the math from the label on the screen: 12V, 8W power

I = P/V --> I = 8/12 = .667 A = 667 mA ::

I'm such a moron... but hopefully this will help someone else!
