Has anyone tried a usb printer adapter for a parallel LCD?

I've heard people say it will work, and people say it won't work. What I want to know is some concrete proof either way

I'm trying to smooth out my wiring scheme for my din control box and so far it looks like i'm going to have to run way more wires than I was hoping.. this would significantly reduce that. (keyboard, usb, ide, parallel, power)

I'm using one to drive a printer here at work, and from what I see - the answer is that it won't work.

USB LPT adapters don't emulate a hardware printer port - they add their own software LPT port. LCD's require hardware level access to the printer port in order to send control codes.

I know it's not the concrete "failed attempt" that you're looking for, but that's pretty much what we figured out a year ago.

If somebody begs to differ, I'd like to see it.

That sucks. I was thinking that they would work. My shuttle doesn’t have a parallel port. Now I have two parallel LCD's and no way to use them.

that should work. It comes with software to emulate the port. I got the serial to usb one, well ordered. So you can use the software driver to emulate port 1 and 2 thru the usb.

That third module seems like it would be ideal if i were smart enough to figure out how to make it control my applications

If I follow you correctly, this device should be able to handle 2 devices? And as far as I can tell, you solder the connections, is this correct?

well the module converts one device to usb. basically a serial (or parallel) to usb converter without the covers and stuff. You can buy a parallel connector and solder it to the converter and plug your device to it so you can reuse it.

The next problem would be writing software that would interface with that USB device to drive your parallel LCD. Perhaps you could write a plugin that would work with the Zhender Winamp plugin - that would be pretty sweet.

well the software would've came with the lcd. the usb drivers just emulate the port so no need for extra software, just tell the lcd software which port.
