notebook screen..
Hi,
I know this has been discussed and I found info about turning an old notebook screen into a vga input lcd. Which is almost impossible to do.
But can I turn a notebook screen into a regular monitor?
does such an adaptaor exist? Im sure every company makes different plugs for their screens to plug into their notebooks. But just a thought. I do have a 12.1" laying around.

Using a LCD screen as a regular monitor = turning a LCD screen into a vga input LCD, unless I'm misreading your question.

yes I want to use my old notebook screen as a "monitor."
not wire a video rca to it, I've wanted to do that until I found how its ont so plug-N-play.
but it must be possible to use the screen as a vga input. I mean the notebook had a monitor out so ?
or is this another one of those "this topic has been beaten to death"?

Yes, most of the discussion here around flat panel LCD's has been around modifying them to take VGA input. Which requires a controller card, inverter, cable.
A laptop has a VGA out, but the screen on a laptop is driven via an internal controller typically integrated into the motherboard. Modifying an old laptop screen to accept VGA input is discussed at length on these forums... I don't recall seeing any discussions around modifying an old laptop screen to accept RCA video in, but I am new here so maybe I just haven't seen it.

Its a this topic has been beaten to death The motherboard of the laptop has a built in controller for the screen. To use it elsewhere, you will have to purchase a controller to make it accept the signals (vga/svideo/composite) of what ever you hooked up to it. And the controllers are usually $$$$$$$$$$$, and you'd have to find a controller that works with your screen.

what if you want to extend the cable that is between laptop and display. Is that possible? i have 2 laptops, one of which i could use as a carputer. Just wondering if there was some way to detach the monitor, extend the cable, and voila!

the short answer is NO....
The long answer is search for it.....
laptop extend search
tons of info, read it then ask. We get this all the time. Questions that get hashed out multiple times most with very good answers.
A new member shows up and asks all the same questions as they pursue there own learning curve....
Welcome to the board, please read before you ask.
