Help needed...
Greatings, guys,
I'm new to this forum postings, and I don’t really know its rules, but I would really be grateful if someone out there could help me. Sorry for my linguistic errors, I'm Italian and my English is quite rusty. I currently live in Beirut - Lebanon (yes, Middle East) for work.
Down to business. I've managed to buy a 4 inch LCD that was passed as an original boxed Sony. So imagine my surprise when I found, reading a post by Oracle, that it was an Interact model (Lebanon IS paradise for brands’ piracy).
I've tried the same things every one on this forum went through, and still no image. So I was wondering if some one was able to obtain something out of it, or if it's a cheap LCD with no RGB feeding, only S-video (Oracle, if you read this, please reply, you have my same exact LCD). Cause tracing the circuit on the connection's PCB, it seems that only the S-Video pin is actually conveyed to the screen’s controller, the RGB signal is just passed through to the MultiAV Out.
I would really be grateful for any suggestion. Thank you.

Ok, I got this thing working using the hsync / vsync to csync circuit with my 5900xt.
Only problem I'm having is to to get Winxp to detect it when it's connected as a second monitor.
I'm using a video cable with pin 9 in it (without it the screen wouldn't kick on).
Is there something I'm missing? I really don't want to install a second video card.
It does work when connected to my system as the only screen (as in on boot).
But when I'm in XP and try to get both monitors working I don't have any luck.
I even tried conneting another monitor and removing it after it was detected.
But when I connect the Psone, it's just ignored.
Hope someone has the trick.

I have a Kenwood Unit which has RGB input in the form of a round 13pin din, could this mod be used for that as well? I've love to get VGA into the RGB, so much better than RCA

need some help
hey everyone... I know this is an old thread but im been trying to find info on this forever. After finally finding it I am still a little confused about a something.
Well first off i got one of these psone screens from a friend. He had lent it to me and it was pretty trashed already so he didnt really want it back. The screen seemed to be fine (and it was/is) but the problem look to be something on the board with the switches and signal converters. I was able to rig it to test if it still worked then tryed to duplicate the board with failed results. So now i have the lcd without the inbetween board and dont know what wire is what signal.
So if anyone can help i would be so grateful!!!
this is a view of the back of the lcd with the 'ntsc' (labled so on the other side of it) attached:
:::Click to enlarge:::
the question is, does anyone know what the input would be from here and/or what each wire is
:::Click to enlarge:::
it appaers to be pin4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 12.
at first i thought it was the matched directly to the playstation av out but it doesnt seem to match up. anyone know?
thanks...

what is the number of that square IC used in this circuit?....i cant see the number from the resolution of this picture....
if you can give the number or a high-resolution picture, then its possible to get the datasheet of that semiconductor used and find the video input.

Ka-BUMP
Yeah Yeah Yeah....I Know it's an old thread and I know that some of you Hate bumps, especially when they are trying to resurrect the dead.
BUT....
I have been cruising MP3Car forums for a little while now and after coming across this little mod, I went and dug out my PSOne screen along with my PSOne and thought to myself that this mod would be Juicy.
The only thing is, I'm smart enough to know that I'm Not smart enough. I don't need to be Spoon-fed, I just need a little more direction.
The reason I'm bumping this thread is that after reading through all this fluff, as informative as it is it only offered more confusion, I have FINALLY come across what I was looking for.
FRANKI has an InterAct Mobile Monitor. I know this because I'm staring at the exact same thing. The difference is that I have one that is intact and works like the day I got it.
I need to know the pinouts of pretty much everything, simply because I can not seem to find it anywhere else online. (Oh My, how I have tried.)
The LCD is a NTSC TFD50W32-B2 from Toshiba.
There are a total of 6 actual PCB's of various sizes. (Although one is the actual back of the lcd.)
The AV Multi output(female) from the back of the PSOne goes to an AV Multi input(male) on the front of the base that attaches to the back of the PSOne.
On the back of the base there is another AV Multi output and the RCA's plus the 7.5V DC plug.

Hopefully, this may prove fruitfull in allowing you to better understand exactly what I am looking at and perhaps better help me out.
Sorry bout the large pics.

Hey Snuff. I have that interact screen also. I had it in my car from 2002 to 2006 until I changed cars. I had always used the crappy composite input. Quick & dirty won out.
Hey it survived four winters and is still kicking. I'm finally getting around to setting up my new car and came back to see if anyone had found a vga solution. My understanding from this thread is that there isn't any.
This datasheet suggests its main chip is RBG capable but since the interact was never wired to use RGB I don't know what would need to be modified on the circuit board.
http://www.alldatasheet.com/datashee...RB5P0090M.html
Here's the datasheet for the chip:
http://www.alldatasheet.com/datashee.../IR3Y29AM.html
I have some photos of the screen from way back:
http://www.seanster.com/gallery/psone_lcd
I have a pocket underneath the stereo that would be perfect for a foldout lcd and this baby fits right in there. But I probably shouldn't go to all the trouble just to be stuck with crap ntsc again.
I'll keep looking around for a while. I have more time than money this time around... If I can't find any solutions I may just shove the lcd in a small box and make some sort of ghetto velcro mount.
CN3 is the connector that interact uses and definitely does not have any RGB capability.
CN4 is to the immediate left of CN3 and I had suspected it would contain the RGB inputs.
Sure enough, the RGB signals are on pads B-8,R-9,G-10. The resistors and capacitors for ac coupling are populated on the board so it looks ready to go.
I'll look into the sync sistuation and report back.

Interact Mobile Monitor PSOne RGB Hack
Ok I have pretty much figured it out.
The Toshiba TFD50W32-B 5" LCD is 960X234. It would seem that no matter what we do it's going to have lousy vertical resolution.
I have pics of the hack in action along with a screenshot of the powerstrip settings.
The action photos are all in 848x480 mode. I suspect 640x480 looks better. It's all just temporary wiring in those pics.
http://www.seanster.com/gallery/interact_lcd_rgb_hack/
Here's the relevant bits of the missing connector CN4:
04 HSync to pin 34
06 Composite Sync to pin 36 sync separator (or just vsync?)
07 SW : Low=Composite High=RGB
08 Blue
09 Green
10 Red
18 GND
19 GND
25 +VCC
Tie SW pin 7 to +VCC pin 25 to select RGB mode. Leave it disconnected otherwise.
Typical 15 Pin VGA Connector
01 Red
02 Green
03 Blue
05 GND
13 HSync or Composite Sync
14 VSync
I did a lot of fiddling getting the sync working and I don't really understand it. It didn't help that I started thinking csync was shared with vsync. I tried 3 different video cards. One card behaved weird in interlaced mode, the mouse cursor would display correctly but the desktop background was all twisted and smeared.
I'm not entirely certain that you can use the HSync on CN4 pin 4. I haven't managed to get a reliable sync using separate H and V. Only CSync fed to CN4 pin 6 works so far.
I'm pretty sure that I need that sync combiner circuit for my laptop. It's supposed to output CSync but it just won't play ball. Kinda wish I had an oscilloscope for this crap.
If you have any results, info, or questions just send me an email.

Did you desolder the one on the left or the one in the center??

Ok I'm gonna get shafted for bumping this thread ... I know it's old ... but I go a few things that might help ppl with this ...
1. To get the Japanese (or any foreign language) site in English you just bung the whole URL into Google then click TRANSLATE ... at least you can get an idea of what he's saying:
Original Japanese Site Translated
2. Powerstrip v3.75 is latest:
Powerstrip v3.75
3. Guys with older VGA cards ... you might wanna try an older version of Powerstrip because v3 has left out a few old cards ... see Legacy Support below ...
Legacy support
PowerStrip 3 is intended for use with newer display cards, but to protect your investment in older hardware a wide range of otherwise orphaned display adapters are supported, including those based on chips from 3dfx, Number Nine, Cirrus Logic, Rendition, S3, and Tseng Labs. However, a handful of chips supported by older versions of PowerStrip have regrettably been dropped from Version 3.
PowerStrip 2.78
I'm outta here as I need to keep my balls ...
cheers,
Gem
