have you checked that Everything is earthed properlY.
I should have checked the reuired length before I started really, Oh well, could always buy another 2m or 4 metre cable to extend if needed. I can loop any leftover under the rear seat if needed.

Re: Earthing
I am wondering that but for the opposite reason.
On my 2001 Celica they have rear trays in the boot which is what the carputer is built into and hence it quite easy to take indoors.
When I built it indoors, I checked two composite phono cables and neither had any interference on the screen. When its installed in the car and when either cable is run down the car to the front on the opposite side to the power, I get interference from the HDD. Took the whole tray back indoors and its fine again. So the interference only occurs when its mounted in the car.
The only thing I can think of is that the earth return on the car is effectively the shell of the car and hence its acting as one big aerial??? The other thing is the power source is a 240v/300w 12DC -> 240V/300W AC invertor in the car and mains in the house
I am hoping that a Triple screened VGA cable is going to suffer less
Anyway this is going off-topic to I'll finish up here.

Well, update time.
With the Desoldered passthrough from the back of the screen, and the bits I picked up from Maplin, it looks like all systems go,
Followed the instructions, made a short adaptor from 15 pin VGA plug to 12 Multi AV socket.
Fitted it to the VGA out from my Laptop.
Unfortunatley my laptop doesn't do 15hz synch, even with powerstrip, so all I got was over lapping duplicate images, and scrolling. But I did get a colour picture from the VGA port.
Next test is to fire up the G450 DDR DH, with the monitor on head one, and the screen on head two, and play with Powerstrip.
If that proves unsuccessful, I have a PCI matrox Mystique 2 meg I could try.
Will report back hopefully tomorrow, with an update, picture of the adaptor, and pictures hopefully of the screen outputting.

You shouldn’t have a problem with the Matrox card as they should support the 15hz with out a problem.
It’s good to see that your making use if this and I hope it all works out ok
And yep pics are always good

Which version of powerstrip are you using?
The version I downloaded didn't include the 640x480i (arcade) option?

Hmm, I'm sure it's 366 that I'm using.
I've just downloaded and installed build 366 on my main PC (Hercules GF2MX), and it offers Arcade fine, will check which build I'v installed on the carPC tomorrow.

Its the next day - so where the piccies Skraggy
BTW I don't want to even open up the PS Screen so would this provide the necessary connector to make the cable?
I hope so coz its only £5 and looks like there's enough room to fit the VGA sokect one end and have a reasonable gender changer
I presume the phono's on the side of it are composite out + stereo audio?

Yep. That pass through on the end looks to be right.
You should be able to loop one end round, and fit it into the other, also check it has twelve pins.
Got it wored. Just having trouble getting my Matrox G450 DDR Dualhead to do the 640x480i setting (doesn't list it as an option).

Cool,
I'll go ahead and order one.
My only reservation is that at £5 its not gonna be a fully wired passthrough, e.g it only passes through a composite signal from the Playstation and not the full complement of Comp/RGB/S-video
Oh well nothing ventured
BTW This mod cable. I presume that all PSone/2 portable screens have the ability to accept the RGB output. Its just that the Joytech 5inch screen is £120 while the official PSone screen is £80 and I can't see why the big diff in price. Would expect the official one to be more

As long as the passthrough has all twelve pins then you can solder the correct connections on.
My Joytech 7" screen proudly boasts on the box about rgb or DVD input switchable.

Would this mod work with an older video card (ie. 2D PCI card with a S3 chipset (the ones pre-Voodoo + 3D etc.)
For example, a Diamond Stealth64 or a SpeedStar ?

Best thing to do would be install the card, and then download the Powerstrip demo/shareware.
Then see if it offers the arcade (640x48i) setting for your card.
if it does, the card should work OK, you just need to find the pin outs for the Video of your screen, if different to those that M pro used. Currently I'm sticking with TVout, but will explore the VGA/RGB conversion again later.

MPro,
good write up on your website
I noticed that you got your screen for £35. Care to shed some light on the source as they are a lot more than that normally.
