Ruined a ribbon cable on a Xenarc 705TSV monitor. What do I do?
I was pulling apart a Xenarc 705TSV to put into a friend's car and when I tugged the two circuit boards apart I pulled a ribbon cable out of one of the boards. If anyone has taken apart a Xenarc screen, specifically the 705, you'll know the ribbon cable I'm talking about. There's no clip to hold it to the board, it's just the ribbon itself that somehow just slides into a plastic receiver on the board and there's black tape holding it in. It comes out very easily.
So since I had no idea how it was supposed to go back in and that it's not supposed to slide in flush with the board, scraped up the metal contacts on the cable by mistake. They're now all broken and touching each other so when I finally get it pushed in the right way, the screen flicks a white colour on and off as I fiddle with the cable. Any idea how Xenarc would be with a warranty return for something like this? Or if they even sell this ribbon cable I need? I looked on their site, is this it? http://www.xenarcdirect.com/product....cat=258&page=1
Thanks.

Will this cable work? It says it's for old non-LED monitors but it appears to be the same 40 cable. What do you think?

I am fortunate enough to have Xenarc close enough to go and visit their shop. They are usually pretty helpful. I would give them a call and find out if either of these is the part or not.

Okay, I ordered 2 of the extended cables from mp3car that say they won't work and I also ordered 1 of the exact replacement cables from Xenarc which will work. I'm hoping the longer one will work as it'll be easier to work with but I know this short one will.
To anyone else taking apart a Xenarc 705TSV, do not........I repeat.....DO NOT remove the tape from the back of one of the circuit boards. That ribbon cable is delicate stuff.
And if anyone has a technical explanation for why the mp3car cable won't work I'd love to hear it.

Most cables in monitors are ffc's which stands for Flat Flexible Cable. They usually come in two types. .5mm pitch and 1.0mm pitch. And they come with different # of pins. 12, 16, 20, 24 etc.
The way you determine which one you need is to put the ffc up to a mm ruler and count the pins. Say there are 20 pins and it is 20mm wide, then you have a 20 pin 1.0mm ffc. If it has 20 pins and is 10mm long then you have a 20 pin .5mm ffc.
You have to replace the ffc with the same pin/pitch ffc but it can be longer/shorter.

So it's entirely possible that the longer cables for the CCFL screen could work because realistically they probably wouldn't change it between models unless there was a technical reason.

Cool, so as long as it has the same number of pins and is the same width then I'm good to go?

So I got the 15 inch cables from the mp3car store and they're not working because the pins are now misaligned and not making direct contact with the pins on the cable. See the pictures:
What's the best way to align these again? Some sort of super magnifying glass and a thin piece of metal? How much is a new Xenarc LCD panel you think? Does mp3car sell the panels themselves or do I have to get it from Xenarc? And is there some sort of easier way to replace this cable acceptor on the board?

When I broke the pins from my touchscreen overlay on my lilliput, I just soldered them to the circuit board, but i would doubt you'd wanna do that for 40 pins lol

Well looks like I just bought this busted monitor for $200 and he ordered another one for $340 to the door, next day delivery. So I still have to get this screen working to put it in my car, any more help is appreciated.
But I'm also wondering with this screen......the bent pins are on the side of the ribbon cable with the black stripe, the exposed pins on the cable are on the other side. These bent pins aren't contacting anything so would it matter at all that they're bent? Who cares right? And I have the original ribbon cable to make sure I'm actually facing this new cable the right way which is correct. For some reason it's still not working with the new cable, I thought it was the bent pins initially but if they're not contacting the cable it can't be that. I'm lost now....

i don't understand your question...if you have bent pins not making contact that is a problem...the pins make contact to the wire...a flexable conductor to conduct a signal from one place to another...if that signal (1) doesn't get transfered...there is a loss of data...it will always think that there is a 0....They would not have put the pins there if they didn't need to be connected to anything...

You can see it in the picture. The ribbon cable slides under the pins that are bent but that black part on the ribbon cable which is facing you doesn't have any exposed metal. The exposed pins on the cable are on the other side of the cable, facing down, making contact with pins underneath. The bent pins here aren't making contact with anything on the old busted ribbon cable, nor the new longer ribbon cable.
