LCDs from PocketPC/Handspring/Palm/Gameboy/etc...

Are they any good? How difficult would it be to make them work?

I'm just thinking we could find broken stuff on Ebay and salvage the LCD outta them, huh?

No need to buy broken stuff, the Palm III series are cheap enough now "used" at computer shows and such, like $35 CDN. They work fine and you could take them apart to embed the screen into your visor or dash if you wanted to go custom. I use one in my setup right now, while it is neat, i wouldn't use one again. Go with a bigger display like 5" or 7" at least, you will be happier.

What Loftus was getting as was that you could use an entire working pda with a hotsync cable to control your car pc, but using a lcd from a pda by itself would be quite hard (ie you'd have to find information on the lcd which is probably custom made for the pda, and then find or more likely have a controller (vga>lcd) made for it ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$).

Most of the monochrom Pda Displays are only providing row and colum driver. For this kind of lcd you only find if you have look an old ISA based graphic card.

The newer passiv color displays are hardly to interface with the pc, without custom made controller or better said graphic card.

The next thing is, that isīt hard to get a data sheet of the panels.

Marco
