Pictures of NON-VGA monitors running Media Engine? Please Help

Hello,

I hear many talking about how "unreadable" text is on a non vga monitor but wanted to see how bad it is if the ONLY use will be to run Media Engine. (I will not be accessing the windows gui at all except for setup)

I have a 7 inch widescreen in dash and really do not have the funds to replace it this early in the process. (Upgrade later)

Is it really true that on the Media Engine MP3 list (or radio, etc) that I will NOT be able to easily read the display?

If you have any pictures or would be willing to post some I would appreciate it. I do not want to build this if it will not be usable until I can afford the VGA version of a monitor.

Thanks in advance,
Kevin

Thanks

That does not look so bad to me....anyone else?

Also what "nit" is that monitor and is it hard to see during daylight? (Or is it just the daylight AND camera causing it to be difficult to see.)

Thanks again!!

media engine was made for non vga screens. So all the text is very readable. People in my back seat can read the playlist text on the screen. I have a 6.8 inch tft 250 nit screen. Media Engine looks great on it.

honestly its not bad. I mean I also cannot afford to upgrade to a dash built in xenarc or anything. the tft-lcd is not that blury, just hard to see during the daylight. I have perfect 20/20 vision and I can see the screen just fine.

hijinks21, Thanks for the input.

samc, I might be in trouble though as I only have one eye at 20/30 (I was born blind though and they still let me drive)

Also the reason for poor day light visibility with TM-701L is the touch screen panel. Since the panel is the same as xenarc then the brightness is the same 250 nits. Xenarc 7" + touch monitor will look exactly like TM-701L with touch. I am looking into getting some anti-glare film for our touch panel so maybe it will help a little.

Here is some pics of TM-7002S (no touch panel):

digitalww,

So are you saying that if I use one of your touchscreen kits for my DA-7169 that I will loose visability?

Also have you put on on a DA-7169? (I remember a post where you stated that you were going to try one but never saw if you did or not.

Thanks,
Kevin

All touch panels (resistive) will dim the Monitor a little and they also add glare. That is why during the day the touch panel reflects a lot and it is a little harder to see at different angles.

DA-7169 - our 7" touch panel will not fit this monitor, the panel is a little too wide.

Crap!!

Digitalww,

I was planning on using this monitor with your touchscreen overlay

hhhhmmmm.....

Couple of questions then. 1st I noticed the monitor has a circuit board on the back. Is it possible to remove the monitor from the case, use one of your touchscreens, and then mount it behind the factory panel? Got any ideas of how I would make the RCA inputs work?

What is a low cost solution that you might be able to offer? (Considering I want to see it in the day and want touchscreen)

I was thinking maybe I could use one of your 7 in monitors remove it from the housing and mount it flush. What do you think? What size is the actual screen assembly if it in no in the housing?

What about an overhead flip down screen? Are they sturdy enough to use as a touchscreen? Do you have any that would fit the front light assembly of an Escape?

I think I might go nuts as I thought this monitor would work for now

Thanks,
Kevin

I assume that this screen is composite input?

If so then this just goes to show that the quoted resolution 1440*234 (or approx 480*234 pixels in real terms) of this screen on your site (as well as several others) is seriously being undersold as there is no way you'd get that clear text on it if it was.

As you say the panel is the same one as in the Xenarc which we know has a resolution of 2400*480. So why one earth would the manufacturers miss a major selling point of a higher resolution than other 7inch screen's on the market?

I honestly have no answer for this

all I can tell you is the text is crisp to me. I am sure xenarcs (and other vgas) are crisp as it gets but the TM-701L is good for me. Anyhow I am not planning to do word processing in my car. I don't even use a keyboard (touch screen) : )

samc,

I noticed the screen that you have has an operating temp range of 0C - 60C (32F-140F) Do you live in a warm climant? What happens when the temp is below 32F (Which if you were in Ohio it always does)

Does your EPIA 800 handle dvd playback (or divx) very well? I hear many saying that it is "choppy" and that I should go with a EPIA M series instead.

Thanks,
Kevin

I don't know what to tell you about the cold climates. I live in NY.. winter its like 0-10 degrees F, summers 90+, typical weather. So I have not gotten a chance to try the screen in very cold climates. Although I do have the heater vents running right behind and above the din pocket.

And I would say no the EPIA 800 does not handle dvd very well. It is choppy and I dont use the dvd-rom drive at all = ). But more of my divx's play well.

Fortunately I have a separete dvd player that I installed before the carputer.
