VFD Display

I have recently come across an Epson SED2800f VFD Display, and they were used on an old E-POS tills. Can this be used in my MP3 machine. The VFD has plugs into the computer with an exact same copy of the end of a network cable (RJ-45 I think), which plugs into the a 24v point in the tills. If anyone has any advice on how I could get these working, please do! Any software tips of hard would be great, as it would save me purchasing a new VFD.

There are quite a few part numbers on the VFD:

CU20026SCPB-T20C

Or if there is no way this can be done, any suggestions for a new VFD screen would be great. Are their any available which come shipped with software, and easy to connect i.e. USB or parallel?

the model number, "CU20026SCPB-T20C" refers to a Noritake-Itron character VFD.
The "one-off" model that's on their website is: CU20026SCPB-T28A

That would mean that your VFD is a 2 row, 20 character display that accepts either serial or parallel.

Please post pictures of your display and if possible get pictures of the inside of whatever casing it came in. It sounds like that's how you got it (still inside the POS casing)

That 8-pin connector is probably not 24v. 24v is WAY too much voltage for most character VFD's. Chances are that plug carries both a 5v power lead and the serial data line.
