LCD mount
For those of you who have your LCD mounted on the floor, or somewhere outside the dash, what do you use to mount it?
I am looking for a mount that both swivles left-right, and moves up and down. It needs to move up and down in way that allows it to be pushed down, screen first, into the floor of my car. Are there any like this? By searchin the forums (yes, I allready did a search!) i found these http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/ but I am not sure It moves up and down how I would like it to.
My first idea was a regular hinge from a hardware store, that would have worked great, but door hinges arent strong enough for the weight of an LCD. So, any ideas??

LOL...your LCD weighs more than a door? Are you sure it's not a CRT with an iron casing?

Yep, that would be really useful, as I'm about to go for a similar thing here.

yes please tell us which mount you found to do this!!!! I have a Ford Ranger and am doing the same. I want the mount to mount on the floor and allows me to adjust the screen up/down, swivel right/left and all that good stuff.

Just noticed your signature, mate... you're not a regular on uk.rec.cars.modifications, are you? I've posted there a few times myself

I've been planning my computer for two years (as of this past february) and I'm finally starting to put it into my car... finally have all the parts and all.
Any way, the point of this post was that I finally decided on a way to mount my lcd..its a 10.4 sharp (I'm ordering a touch screen kit for it for it next week). I decided to use hinges to fold the screen over my stereo and air conditioner and then it will fold down when not in use. I'm gonna use fiberglass to make it look nice...
I don't think this is what you're talking about, but the hinges seem to hold the lcd up fine.
I think the main limitations you would have with mounting would be a) How you attach it, (what adhesive you use, be it screws or glue, etc) and b) Where it's attached to (if it's screwed down, whatever it is screwed to would have to be able to hold the weight without breaking)
If anyone wants to see my mount in progress (without the nice look to it, just the metal skeleton) I'll post pics.

Door hinges aren't designed to hold somthing on a horizontal axis. This explaines why it couldnt support the weight of the LCD. But, I am sure if I looked harder I could have found a "heavy duty" one that would.

I had found a great solution with ram-mounts, but then I found out they were like $50 a pop. So I kept on searching and I found these, http://www.lashen.com/vendors/panavi...imline2000.asp
But, the mount is screw adjusted, I wouldnt want to bust out my screwdriver to fold down my LCD everytime I want to get out of the car (you can also get a knob adjusted version, but still). So I wonder, if maybe there is a point at wich you can tighten it to be strong enough to support the LCD, but yet still be moved easily?? Does anyone have one of these? The description says it has a serrated ball contact, which may mean that locks into knotches, making what we are looking to do more difficult..
//edit
I just shot an email off to these guys asking about it.. I'll update you all when I hear back from them

Exactly.. I got an email back about that other mount. He said it would work like that for a while, but eventually it would get stripped and yield the unit completly useless.. So, i'm still looking

Yep, that would be me.
The Skoda has gone now though, and I'm planning on installing very shortly into a nice old Saab 900 Turbo I picked up for a Bargain.
