gamevue controller card started to smoke.

pic stolen from http://www.jrok.com/hardware/lcd/lcd_panel_fun.html

I havent tried it at all after buying it from a member here, it seemed damaged since the "came loose" component was bent. I hooked it yp anyways and it worked like it should. then everything white on the screen became yellow and i saw that the part's one leg was loose...

Tried to get some pics with my crappy webcam but no luck, and then i saw smoke coming out of the back of the screen.... it was the resistor, it had gotten so hot the solder melted! I have no idea what that component is, and what it does (it has something to do with the color atleast )

anyone who knows what it is, would you please find me a replacement at http://www.elfa.se/en/ (only top names in the table of contents is in Swedish).

the resistor i guess I can find myself.

thanks

Its a transistor of some sort....You really need to post what the markings on it are, so we can work out which transistor u need.

I lost it... but i's either:

100
16v
or
1e
220
16v

could I just get two and change it if it's wrong?

Hello Jol,
Just opend mine and this is what i came up with.

condensator:
1F
220
16V
Mind that the blak side of it is the negative side.

resistor:

brown , black , black , gold

If i'm correct then this would be 2K ohm , but don't shoot me for it if i'm wrong. Maybe someone with more skills would know for sure.

That's a 10 ohm resistor, 5% tolerance. It's hard to tell if is a 1/2 or 1/4 watt resistor.

Thanks,
Just got a hold on a meter and it says 9.9 so 10 it is.
From the size of the resistor i say its a 1/2W,
1/4W is smaller.

From the size of the resistor it looks like a 1/2 watt to me. Id put in a 1/2w it doesn't affect anything to go higher there just means it can dissipate more heat than a 1/4w.

The other is a surface mount capacitor. The dark on one side is the polarity label.

and it works again, thanks all.
The window on the crt is vnc.
I added a bunch of resistors instead of one 10, since I wasnt sure about the wattage total 10.8 ohm.
