Laptop Compatibility (not with a pc .. i know i know)

Well, the mp320i project JUST finishes not more than 3 days ago .. and what happens? The laptop dies... Son of a *****!

Well, Since I have the custom console all set up for the current screen and all, redesigning would be a major PITA and it would cost more $$ in materials.

My question is do you guys know if the video controller on laptops is compatible from laptop to laptop. If I pick up a new laptop I could simply pop in the controller from my 'dead' laptop into the new laptop and then be able to use the screen I was already planning on.

I can get pics of the connectors if anyone needs them..

From my understanding the majority of laptops have the video controller just as a part of the mainboard and not a component, if it is a component it would most likely only be compatible with the very same laptop model. Wether it is a component or not you should be able to find a listing of laptops that used that specific controller and then just buy one from the list and chuck the old mainboard. Laptops with cracked LCD's are usually a steal on eBay.
Out of curiosity, what is "dead" on the laptop.

Also I just noticed you have the exact same Panasonic head unit as I. I love it, especially the cool glow effect at night.

I'm not sure what is "dead" with it. It no longer boots up. I think it's just a crummy laptop .. A long time ago the CD-ROM stopped working so I removed it... now I'm thinking it's the mobo cd-rom interface that died .. cuz then the battery stopped charging .. then it wouldn't even detect a battery.

NOW, it just doesn't boot. I hot the power button and everything jolts on real quick -- then stops .. the hard drive never spins, the system fan never spins .. only for a brief second when i hit the pwr button do they spin. And if I hit the button again .. they DON'T do anything. I have to unplug the power and replug it back in to make it do the spin-on-power button thing.

I'm disconnected anything that may be a problem (lcd, hard drive) so I have no idea what is wrong with this thing.

Also, the screen I have comes back as a Samsung LT133X2-122 from a cross reference under theinfo on the back of it (Hyundai HT13X12-101). Apparently these are the same screens (??). Anyone know what laptops/mother boards this is compatible with? Thanks..

Skraggy_uk is on a distinguished road
What type of Laptop was it again? I know that bigger 13"+ screen dell's 7000 models and above used to have an edge connector fitted ATI card on board.

Try and see if you can find the specs and an Online service manual for yours. Might be some help.

It was a generic laptop -- I managed to find a guy who has the same laptop (I forget the motherboard name) and he sold it to me for $10 -- and it supposedly works fine! We'll see what happens when it gets here..
