Mod for DATALUX LMV10R and 3.3v Sync
Hi all,
I have a way to make the datalux LMV10R monitors work on the video cards and motherboards that use 3.3V sync signals instead of 5V. It is an easy mod. All you need is a 74HCT04 Hex inverter and a 0.1uf cap. You wire it up so the H and V sync lines each go into one inverter then that output goes through another inverter and that output you hook to the screen. Here is a little diagram. And its only two parts!
I am selling one that I already modified and tested so if you are interested in that go check the For Sale forum.

I updated the diagram a little. Its in my post about 10 down form here.

Hey thx for info., but could you go more in depth on it? Like show pics of parts and how much they should cost?

Slick! I would like to see a pic of how you installed the dip into the case!
BTW great idea!

Hi,
Cooljock the part cost like 25 cents and the cap should also be a few cents. Its just a little DIP chip.
Jpainter99 Umm I am selling the monitor but if I can I will get a pic of what I did. As far as mounting I made a L shaped bracket that held the dip and the little board it was on(about 1.5inch by 1 inch) out of plexiglass and the made a small hole in the inside of the case(you cant see it from the outside) and screwed it in. Mounting was the hardest part but not too bad. Oh and I put the hole thing on the left side of the screen (when looking from back) next to the inverter.
As far as why this works. The video signals are standard analog 1V on any vga video card and dont need to be changed, but the vert and horz sync signals are digital signals. The new video cards output those digital signals at 3.3V. The HCT04 is just a logic chip with a buch of logic inverters in it. If you look at its datasheet it needs about a one volt input for its output to go low on the inverters. So what happens is when the sync goes high(to 3.3v) that is enough to trigger the first inverter to go low. Then that low output goes into the next inverter which is triggered to go high (5V). This give the same digital signal on the output as the input but its at 5V instead of 3.3V. The speed of the hct04 is more than enough for this application and I check it with my scope and it looked great.
Oh and I wish I could take credit for this but I my friend who has been in the electronics and chip design feild for many years told me how to do this. I was just the one who put it together.

Did you see the bitmap picture I atached to the fist message. That shows how you need to wire it. It guess when I have time could do a better wire diagram but if you know some electronics you should be able to get by with that.
A step by step would be hard because the real problem is running the wires, and where and how to mount it. I also think some datalux screens may be differnt. Even if I make one you still have to do the wire job.
I did buy two of the chips so I could try and put to gether a little kit for you to do the mod, and I will open the screen and get better pictures. I guess if you let me know how much you would be willing to spend on one I might build one for you.
Make it worth my time and I guess I will do what is needed to get a kit and some sort of insrtuctions together. If anyone else is interested let me know cause I dont want to do to much work seting up a kit for just one of them.

Where in the datalux case did you pull the +5v from?

Oh hehehehehe!
The inverter runs off 5V so I split the power for it and ran it to the HCT04. I think the whole thing really runs off 5V cause there is a switching 5V regulator in there but I could be wrong.

actually I think the inverter runs off of 12 volts... ill have to check with a meter to be sure
Update: Checked and there is a 12v and 5v on the inverter

Hi all someone pointed out that it looks like there is a cap on the v-sync from my diagram. There isnt. The cap is on the 5V line and not the V-sync. I will update the diagram and make it a little bigger.

Hello,
Kinda new here. For some reason i can't see the diagram for the 3.3 volt mod. I just bought on Datalux LMV10R on ebay and would like to mod it. Could you please email me the picture of the circuit.
Thanks.

Sorry I've been away for a while. I got real busy at work.
Not sure why the pic I posted is not there anymore but I will put it up again. I also took some pictures of the inside of the screen before I sold it and will see if I can get those up here somehow.

That helps so much!!! YOU ARE THE MAN!!!! I can pick up the parts on the way home from work and get started on upgrading the monitor.
I'm looking forward to getting an ITX computer, probably a Epia-M 9000 and a 40 GB HD. Just hope a 60 Watt DC-DC converter can handle it.
