I've gotten these drivers installed and they aren't playing too nicely with my system. So far, XP has randomly rebooted 3 times and every time I recover to a critical failure linked to the video driver...


This is most likely due to the fact that you've installed the newest drivers which are seen as "more compatible" by the OS. If you really want to give these a try (at your own risk), you can try the following method.

• Download the drivers and extract them to a folder on your hard drive.

• In the device manager (Start->Control Panel->System->Device Manager), disable the video card.

• Reboot the machine and you'll be running on the generic VGA drivers.

• Launch the "Add Hardware" wizard (Start->Control Panel->Add Hardware)

• Hit "Next" and choose "Yes, I have already connected the hardware" once it's done searching.

• Scroll to the bottom of the list and choose "Add a new hardware device."

• Hit "Next" and choose "Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)."

• Hit "Next" and once the search is complete, hit "Next" again.

• Choose "Display adapters" and hit "Next"

• Hit the "Have Disk..." button, point the next dialog to the extracted drivers from the first step, and hit "OK."

• Highlight the driver in the list (VIA/S3G CLE266 ... 01.19.01) and hit "Next."

• Let the install finish. You'll probably get an error at the end. Hit "Finish" and reboot your machine.

• Once you've rebooted, go back into the device manager and remove the original display adapter (the one you disabled at the beginning).

• Reboot again and you should be using the WinXPe drivers.

This worked for me but, again, I've had a world of problems with the drivers. It may be the newer BIOS or something else altogether...

A bit of an update...

The majority of the problems I ran into centered around attempting to futz with the "second monitor" that suddenly presented itself in the display properties. It now appears as though I have a dual-monitor setup (I don't, but hey...). As long as I leave the secondary one COMPLETELY alone, I'm OK. The thing that really bugs me is that of the two devices listed in Display Properties, only one of them says it's using the XPe drivers. I'm not 100% certain that the working (Primary) display is running off of those drivers at this point...grr...

The real problem now is that after all of this, I still don't have any non-standard resolutions listed. Has anyone managed to get these drivers installed and come out on top with a 16:9 resolution option that'll work on a Lilliput 7"?
