Chevy Blazer LCD location good? Opinions?

Hey everyone. I am building a carputer for my 1998 Chevy Blazer 4 door. I already have an Alpine in the dash right now, so an in dash LCD is not possible. I was thinking of cutting the end of my console off and building a fiberglass enclosure for a flush mount install with my DSCustoms 7" touchscreen LCD.

There's a pic below with a little ugly MSPaint work. Let me know if you think its a good spot, any suggestions? The solid black is the LCD.

mine is in a similar location in my explorer. If your lcd has a bad viewing angle you might wanna get the angle good before you go build anything.

I love my lcd where you have it.

Hey hijinks21, where in Albany? I go to RPI in Troy. Did you fiberglass your enclosure for your LCD?

i use to live across of route 7 from RPI. I live just south of albany now in delmar. I didn't fiberglass it. I did it out of wood and when i get the time I'm gonna vinyl it.

I have the same car as yours, but I plan to put a 10.4" LCD where the radio & AC controls are. You can move the AC/Heat controls to where your ashtray is below.
If you plan to keep your Head Unit, and it has a detachable face, why not leave it hidden behind the LCD, then attach jumper wires from the faceplate to the headunit.
These are just options for you to paly with. I found this pic as an example of what I plan on doing.

CRAP!! That's insane right there. I can't imagine having a screen that big in my dash. That would just drop jaws left and right.

it did in mine.

just a little hint though--you'd better be prepared to cut wires and lenghten them if you want to do something like that. I had to lengthen my AC control wires about 9 inches to get the controller in the right place.

In retrospect, I would have done what you planned--put the screen on the floor like that in a custom console. it will make your life much easier.

Yeah, my idea is nice and clean, and should be an easy fiberglass job. Plus it will be easy to run all my TSK, VGA, and Power wiring to my carputer, which will be in the center console armrest compartment.

ONe thing I was worried about was visibility down there? Anyone else have a screen down there where I drew it? Any problems viewing? Can driver and passenger see it? How about back seat people?

i had a similar setup back in my navajo when i had that and well it stunk down there IMHO. For gps apps it was hard to follow seen as you'd have to take your eyes completely off the road, etc. Back seat people could barely see it.

I ended up hacking it into the dash and that worked good for a week and then the navajo died

With my jeep it's up above the rearview mirror and that works very nicely, can still see road while looking at gps nav and such.

I will have my LCD on Tuesday, and then I can start playing with what location I like best.. I am thinking perhaps mounting in on my dash.. With a bracket and I am not skilled enought to move AC controls
