Thanks, I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out.
Hopefully I can take some more detailed photos…
I removed all the components from the xenarc unit, I then secured the touch component to the lcd with a very small amount of silicon adhesive.
The LCD fits fairly snugly top to bottom in the factory hole. I did not modify the cars factory dash piece (only some of the metal behind it. )
I cut 2 shims out of wood to center the panel left to right. I then cut a piece of acrylic to cover the gap between the lcd and the dash. I drilled 4 holes into the acrylic and counter sunk each so the screws would be flush. Finally I laid down a thin piece of aluminum over the back of the lcd. (I later used the aluminum with some 1 inch stand offs to secure the rest of the LCD components. ) The 4 screws from the acrylic line up just right to meet the edge of the old radio bracket. Tighten everything down, and the lcd is sandwiched between the aluminum and the acrylic.
I then found some hard thin plastic material and cut it into the shape of the acrylic. Finally I applied a thin layer of glue to the acrylic and placed the plastic “cover” on top of the acrylic. Currently the final layer is contact paper (thought It looked nice) but I might paint it… or lay down some wood grain or something…
Right now, the buttons are un finished. I really don’t want to modify the dash in any way. I could put them next to the ac controls.
Most likely I will add them to the power / pc control box I built into my change tray – (see photo )
I will try and take some more detailed photos.
