Video is good on crt..bad on lcd

Not sure if its something with grounding or what...but my epia 800 onboard video looks fine on a crt. When I put it in my car and hook it up via composite on my sony xav-7w it looks like crap. Its pixilated, and nothing like what your pics look like. I am going to try a new cable when I get home, and also hook up a dvd player to test quality there. Just wanted to know what you guys thought. Its strange cause it def looks much worse than it should.

You sure its not just becuase you're looking at composite video on a 7" screen? Its not going to look anywhere near "clean"

yes we already know this.. computer image on a composite screens suck.

Just cause it looks good on a crt screen means nothing. VGA > composite. Thats why people spend 500 bucks on a VGA screen.

Try to lower your resolution to 640x480 and up your text sizes and such. Video should be fine but not desktop text.

What I don't understand is why screen manufacturers don't add S-Video. Its still cheap, and presents a huge increase in clarity over composite. At least S-Video separates the image a little before sending it. I am using S-Video on my 50" HDTV from my HTPC, and its not fantastic but compared to composite it isn't even close.

Yes I understand this, but this is awful quality. Once I test the same cable with a dvd player I suppose I will know, but I am sure I should get a better pic out of it...it is VERY bad. Im hoping its either a bad cable or interference, cause I used a diff cable on my tv, and I had no problems. I know it wont be clear on a small screen, but this is more like I have interferene problems. I shouldnt have used the crt as an example...I wasnt being to clear

The difference between S-vid and composit is NOT that great... barely noticable to most.

Now, composit to RGB is a world of difference.
The fact is nothing can begin to compare to VGA. The sync, the seperation, the color depth..... whole different ball game.

I agree with gizmomkr, composite is absolutely terrible and I wouldn't hold my breath thinking it's interference or a bad cable. That is just how bad compsosite really is.

Come over and I'll show you what difference composite - S-video can make when you're looking at a 50" screen. It goes from completely unreadable to pretty decent.

And DVI is nice...but now we're getting into the Home Theatre arena...

Well, I am guessing my head unit is messed up. If I plug something into video one, I get nothing, but if I switch that cable to vid 2 bam, I have crappy picture, but picture none the less. Tryin to decide if I should have bestbuy replace it now or later, as I dont think they have a new model in stores. I dont think they will get any, but I would hate to replace this and then miss out on a sweet deal.
