Smile DigitalWW LCD Screens

Hi..

I built my first carputer about 3 and a half years ago.. The active posters have a lot of great information. I am starting this new thread to comment on Digital World Wide. I just received my DigitalWW DWW-7VGA, which is an indash non-motorized monitor with true VGA input, touchscreen, and two additional composite inputs. I have read talk about quality and service issues from DigitalWW. I want to state it very clear this in an awsome monitor. It is extremely clean and extremely clear and the touchscreen works flawlessly. There is no black tape holding wires together, and the housing works great. On my first carputers, I did large amounts of research on small monitors that would work for these projects. Industrial monitors came to mind because of the small frame and ease of power supply, but all quotes I received were well over a thousand dollars.. I feel like the price of the DWW-7VGA @ $530.00 is a steal. I would have paid more for it!! My experience with Armen with DigitalWW has been great. I am sure he is constantly flooded with questions and always seems to get them answered, except for when his computers were down, but we can all understand that. Look at it this way... An indash true VGA LCD that is 1 DIN sized is nowhere to be found except through DigitalWW, and I am very proud to be the owner of one. If anybody has any questions for me in regards to my experience with DigitalWW, or the workmanship and quality of my DWW-7VGA monitor, I would be glad to answer.

Sincerely,

Ed McGee

That's great to hear. Armen is building and mailing mine as we speak. I cannot wait to receive it. Everything else is in place. I have been VNC'ing into this computer for the last two months while building it and setting everything up . I have powerstrip and the closest I can see to matching the phyical pixels is 720x480.

What look resolutions do you use or think would be possible to use for a carpc with the digitalww screen?

Thanks,
smanders

resolution

Its not necessary to send this monitor an non-standard signal. The controller will automatically expand different resolutions. I currently have it set at 640X480, 16bit color, and 75Hz. refresh and the monitor expands the signal perfectly... It really looks great, especially if you have been using a composite input lcd for years like myself..

Regards,

Ed

So were you expecting a USB touch screen? I got an RS232 which I have already dedicated to something else. Now I have to wire the extra COM port from inside the motherboard to the case and cut a hole for the plug. Also what screw size did you use on the sides to mount it. I am having a hard time finding one with a larger diameter screws with only 2mm short like it asks for on the side. I can get a 5M(5mm) x 10mm but that's too long. Have you tried any English sizes? I am thinking about cutting down the screw I have with a dremel but I'm afraid I'll tear up the end of the screw too much to tap the DWW-7VGA case. Also, on the cable that plugs into the unit that provides power, I assume the Video Inputs do not work and they were originally for the non-VGA version? I was also expecting only two RCA inputs but the connector has three and two are the same color while the other is different. Any info on that?

Thanks for any info,
smanders

Hi, I was wondering what the cables are to connect that hang out of the back of the unit?

The reason i ask is because i have one of the units on order from DigitalWW and want to prep and get all the stuff i need for it ready before it arrives so i can crack on and get it installed....eg extension cables to the boot etc..

Cheers, Keepy

The brightness of the monitor is 250 nits, which is just enough to be visible during daytime. But if sun is shining right at your screen you will not see anything. It helps to get your windows tinted.

And it is not motorized.

So, $399 for the xenarc 7" vga touch, and $530 for the DWW-7VGA...

The only difference is that the DWW-7vga is an in-dash unit? $130 more just because it is not in a case? Why not just get the xenarc and mount in dash???

I apologize for my ignorance! I guess I still dont understand why you could not make it fit? The only problem I could see with the xenarc is that it is allready in a case, which would have to be mounted behind the dash opening. I had a xenarc 700TS for a few days (before returning it for bad pixels). I was just planning on making a custom bracket to mount it in the factory 1.5 din radio opening...no?

So, the Dww is a raw unit with no case which would be better suited for in-dash mounting?

I don't understand all the confusion

DWW-7VGA = Xenarc 700TSV + TM-701L in-dash housing
Everything fits perfectly.

Armen,

Do you have any side-by-side photos of your 7" 400 nit displays versus your 250nit displays (both with touch overlays preferably)? I'm thinking about giving my 250 nit GAIN the boot in favor of one of your 400 nit screens, but I am wondering if the difference is really that appreciable with a touchscreen overlay..

Thanks,
