Hi!

can you tell me if the 701 with the in-dash kit closes with the long edge or the short edge in?

long edge or short edge? if i understand correctly, the answer is the long (bottom) edge fits first into the case with the screen facing toward the ground

Thats what I thought. I guess mine is not going to fit as it is 7 and 5/8" long. Can you measure yours by any chance and let me know how long the bottom edge of your monitor is?

sure thing...
flip up monitor housing 7in wide, 5.25in tall, sticks 2.25in out
entire din slot unit 7.5in wide, <2.5in tall, and ?in deep

nice snug fit in my din slot opening

go to digitalww.com, click products, and click on the unit, and click on the pictures in the bottom right corner for other dimensions

Yep!

I've seen the pictures on his website. Thank you very much for the dimensions. I'm expecting the mounting kit sometime today but right now I cannot imagine how this monitor is going to fit into this box. Without trimming out some of the interior of the box or maybe if I turn it around and mount the monitor with the short edge into the dash, I just don't see any other way. Armen has assured me that the 700 TS will fit in this kit. I really hope he's right.

Take it easy adn thanks again.
Peter

OK, I got my mounting kit today. Now I understand how Armen says they will fit. I don't mount the monitor case in the mounting kit. I remove the LCD, VGA Controller and touchscreen controller from their Xenarc case and install them into the mounting kit. Oh Crap, you know this is going to void the warranty on my 490.00 screen. I am not sure that I am going to do this now. But I really want to.

I started putting together the page I told you about. You can find it here: http://www.digitalww.com/VGA_Controller_howto.htm

I will add the text shortly but this should give you an idea of the steps you need to take.

Hi Armen,

That is really excellent work! I want to thank you for all those photo's. I still don't think I am going to invalidate the warranty on this very expensive screen though.
Thank you again for the photos and I look forward to reading the text you prepare also.

Hi Armen and anybody still paying attention to this thread.

Well, I guess I was wrong about that last comment. I decased the Xenarc and installed it into the new case I got from DigitalWW. The only problem I had that I couldn't fix is that the position of the "on" lamp is such that I couldn't use the new keyboard included with the new case. I don't really care about this, someday I'll figure out how to fill the holes on the front of the case. Armen, thank you very much for the photos. They proved invaluable to me while installing this kit. When you get the document together to go along with them, please let me know so I can check it out. (I love documentation) When I get the mounting pod installed in my M I'll take some photos and post.

You can mount the green LED on to the button board. Just take the IR receiver of off the button board and mount the LED. Then extend the wires from the controller to the button board (the LED). Make sure that you remember which side of the LED was connected to which hole, this is important. It will work.

Could you possibly do one of those with the Touch screen kit as well. It would make installation so much easier. I would also like to see some written documentation for that stuff. I will probably be ordering both the vga and tsk at a much later date (gotta get back to the states, damn desert, find money , etc.). Thanks for the pic walk through though.
