My brand new xenarc has 1 bad pixel!

I just recieved my brand new 700TS and there is ONE pixel near the center of the screen that is always RED! I guess it is time to call the place I bought it from and hope thay are reputible.

Has anyone ever had bad pixels in thier xenarc's?

I just spoke to the dealer (home tech wonders) and he said that they would exchange the LCD, but most LCD's have at least 1 bad pixel, some more. Is this true? I guess the fact that my bad pixel is red and not white is good, but it still sucks that you pay so much $ and have poor QC. He said xenarc only guarentees less than 4 bad pixels.

JOL, I was posting just to get an idea if this is a common problem and I should live with it, or send it back. After speaking with the dealer, it sounds like I could get one that has even more bad pixels.

Its normal for any TFT to have some bad pixels, i dont think they will replace it as it is still within the standard spec...depends how many and where it is on the screens. You can always try for a replacement.

I have seen bad pixels on new expensive laptop. Yup I know its annoying.

No bad pixels on my Xenarc 700TSV. For a 7in screen, I think they could manage perfection. When you get to the 15"+, dead pixels are more common.

Why not get the dealer to check for you before they send out the screen?

Doesnt really matter what they guarentee. At least in the UK you have them under law as it is defective merchandise. You are not made aware of possible acceptable defects at the time of purchase, no small print, nada. Their problem.

thenominous is right

I bought a monitor which had 1 bad pixel and was told some crap about a 3 bad pixel threshold before being considered defective. I spent a LOT of money on that 21" and got pretty mad at the guy for that statement. I got it replaced.

It usually doesn't cost the reseller anything as the supplier 'should' have the same 'replacing defective merchandise' policy with them. That's the way it was in my case (which got me even more upset, they were just to lazy to change it).

yea,

they can't sell you a new product and say that it is ok with even just one bad pixel. It is defective merchandise at that point. Allthough, with eBay it's sometimes difficult to know what to expect. I just got my monitor back from Xenarc, with my complaint about the touchscreen overlay not covering enough of the screen to make it useable, they sent me another monitor. works great!

I've spent $700 on a monitor and gotten 3 dead pixels. Only one company I know of offers 1-dead-pixel replacement policy, Cornerstone. And you can bet you will pay a lot for one.

This is something that was a huge discussion point on Toms Hardware when they review LCD monitors.

The safest bet is to make sure that you know what the suppliers/manufacturer's pixel policy is before you get your hands on the screen.

I seem to recall with the prior brand of monitors that Dave from DSCustoms was selling, he was testing each and every monitor personally prior to shipping. I'm not sure whether he has the time to be doing this still. The best person to ask is Dave.

EDIT:

I just found Dave's pixel policy on his website (which is good):

Our screens are built with excellent parts and production techniques, but LCD panels in general nature have the possibility of having bad pixels. All LCD manufacturers will tell you that over the course of the units life, a few pixels may stop working, or only show one color. If the number of bad pixels is excessive (over 5) we will warranty out the screen.

This is pretty normal. However, perhaps asking nicely to have the monitor tested prior to shipping (espesh if you're not in the lower 48) would be a good idea. That way you can have some comfort while waiting for the UPS/DHL guy.

END EDIT

I have no idea what Armen's policy is.

C!
