LCD In Your Body
Has anyone seen or heard of wiringin an LCD into say a door panel, putting a strong piece of glass over it and sealing it on the egdes with some urathane and a nice black band? My father owns an autoglass shop so I have done a lot of cutting glass. I have also seen people put "peep" windows in the doors like you see in the big trucks.
Anyway, I was thinking, if you could make this work you could build a program that was a marque style image that could be a substitue for a metal emblem or even a real licence plate. What if you put a LCD at every place on your car where there is an emblem or somthing....you could do neat special efects with it as you drive down the road and when the car is shut off everything on the outside of the car would go dark. Also you could park it at shows and do cool things with it.
I am probably talking about somthing someone else has already done, patented the idea, started a buisness, and become a pro at it! If anyone knows of a site or anything about it please let me know.
Thanks and have a great day!

I've seen it done somewhere. Although it's pretty cool. I think it's pretty useless. Just my 2 cents

For show it would be rad and it would have a high cool factor. For daily use??? hmm dunno.

Is there any way to "bend" an LCD screen so that it goes witht he curve of the body?

i believe it can, it would be a lot of work...but like you said, you have to worry about the elements...water would be no problem, it can be sealed off with the glass but sun/heat would ruin it, even if it was heavy duty i think the heat from direct sun would kill it. maybe im wrong.

I had thought about mounting one 10" on each of my rear passanger windows, you wont really be able to see them through the tint unless they are on ( I allready tried it with a 7") I was just going to have them on at car shows or other events. I though it would be cool to run an animation of my system features like a guided tour.
For a daily driver I think it would be rather useless like a big wing on a front wheel drive Honda but it would look cool.

If you got the money, you can do anything. So, yes it can be done. What you can display is up to your imagination. The useage? Well you can replace all of your tail lights with 2 super bright LCD screens You can then display "BRAKE" when braking, flash "Turn Left", "Turn Right", "Hazard" That's just the basics. You can have your own message like "Turn off your blinkers" or "Stop riding on your brakes" or anything you want.

cant bend oleds. I've seen 6.4" video capable OLED at CES last year. That sucker's about 2mm thick. This year I saw a 13.3" wide screen OLED thats 1/4" thick. The problem they have OLED is life expectancy. The OLEDs at CES last only 400-600 hours. They need to increase that to 10,000 hours befor releasing to the public. Pioneer displayed 2 4" film type video screen that can be bend. Thickness = piece of paper. Price tag? Was told $5,000,000 each. Also told that other big companies like SONY are devoloping the same technology. A larger working demo will come out in a few years.

You can bend a lcd. I got bored one day and dis assembled my gameboy . The lcd part of the screen is two very thin and flexable films (plastic sheets) with a edge connector. The films are the connected to a piece of glass (just sitting in front in this case) and must be setup a certion way. If you put the screens together backwards, everything shows up in posi/negi. I have been contemplating using a system like this to use as an adjustable tint for my windows. The problem is finding a manufacturer that will make the controller or the sheets large enough to conver my windows. Voltage determins brightness. I dont know if it is still manufactured like this for color lcd's but I dont see why it wouldnt be.

Cproaudio, they have the message system made with LEDs. You don't want to put LCD as your tail lamp. they are not bright enough and it will not be legal. I did a ton of research on what lights are legal for the US.
They sell it for about 100 pounds in UK. I'll look up the link for you
Here is the link for the electronic tint. You can get it in smaller size as well. There is a company that sell small covers for your licence plate. If you start the car up and if you don't hit a switch, it's blank.
