Recommended NITS for in light viewing.

I'm curious several factors are placed when looking for an LCD that is viewable in the car during daylight hours. My question is has anyone made a graph or something has shows how well each LCD is. I'm looking to purchase a 300nit 10.4LCD but will this be enough? Let me know what grade you guys recommend please.

Thanks

I'd say 400 nits is where it starts to get good, but also where it starts to get hard to use at night by changing colors/theme alone. IE:

<200 nits you wont see a damn thing in the daytime. Forget it.

250-300 nits you'll have marginal to poor daytime performance and slightly bright night performance that is easily fixed by using dark colors..

400 nits will get you decent daytime performance and VERY bright nighttime unless you have a screen that can dim its backlight.

600+ nits starts getting into the realm of what is advertised as "sunlight readable" and really is.. Looking at a screen this bright at night will blind you to the road ahead!

I imagine most in-car factory nav's are probably around 400-500 nits with dimming backlights. I have a 250 nit DSCustoms screen and I'm unhappy with the daytime brightness. Note also that I'm using a touchscreen which will take brightness down up to 20% and increase glare substantially!

I'll be upgrading to a 400 nit screen once I can sell my 250 nit one.
