Lilliput VGA on eBay, how much are import duty/taxes?
I found the Lilliput VGA screen on eBay for $228 USD, another $35 for touchscreen and it was $34 for shipping from Hoing Kong I believe. There is a note in the listing about possibly paying duty but I have no way to tell what it would be. I read a couple replies from UK purchasers of some non-VGA LCDs and DVD players that indicated paying up to 40 pounds in duty, but I don't know if US duty/taxes would be more or less that the UK.
Does anyone have any experience with this type of purchase? How much the duty/taxes would be? The auction has 61 available so there is plenty of these for sale. Additional shipping is $20/item, and possibly cheaper with 5 or more. Is this worth looking into? I calculated $300 for the package including TouchScreen. Anyone have information about this?

I got 2 Xenarc screens through from the US to the UK, cost: $868 (about £550)
A week after they were delivered I had a customs form on my doorstep wanting £100 customs fee
Maybe if it's marked as Gift on customs form it will be OK. I've had 3 things sent through from US as gift, no customs. 2 things as merchandise, got hit with customs fee.
However much it is, they will charge you the 17.5% VAT

Rest of the World to US is usually not a big problem. I have imported a ton of car parts to the US and I have not paid any duty yet. I have also imported a couple of cameras from HK to US and no tax on them either.

Thanks for the replies. I am not looking for any guarantees here just normal expectations. If the duty/tax is as much as $50 this would still be $50 cheaper than buying locally here at $399 for the same thing. Might be worth a shot. This is the most expensive part of the CarPC project for me and *if* I could end up getting this monitor for $300 that would be awesome.

I should be accepting orders for the USB version of the 700YYV from GAIN very shortly, within 2-3 days. The price is at $399, with full warranty support from me. I will be taking orders as soon as I get a confirmed status from the manufacturer and a date of shipping will be posted at that time. This is what everyone seems to have been waiting for.

What is the brightness on that GAIN screen? The Lilliput is 400 nits (from digitalww), I thought the GAIN screen is only like 220 nits.
I am not sure that the one I found on eBay is the same exact model as the one that digitalww sells though. The eBay model indicates that it uses a Sharp LCD panel, while the other one is Hitachi. The viewing angle differs as well as the resolution. Not sure what to make of it all. Still though, if it is comparable and $100 cheaper it *might* be worth a shot.

I didn't even notice the different LCD panel. email the seller and find out what is the model # of the LCD panel. If it is not as good as the Hitachi it might not be worth it.
Check out the side by side shots of Lilliput VS Xenarc: http://digitalww.com/lilliput_vs_xenarc.htm

I did email the seller asking for specs on the Model #, Brightness, Native resolution and model # for the Sharp LCD Panel. I will post the response when I get it.

So would this monitor be suitible for in-dash mounting? It looks like it is designed to mount on a stand, but maybe it could be flush mounted?

It is designed to mount on a stand, but if you have tools, you can do anything. Experiment for yourself and let us know...

After paying here is what the company sent me.
Dear Sir/Madam,
We are sorry to inform you that there was an accident in the shipping process from the China's manufacturer to our warehouse in Hong Kong, and 23 touch screen XGA monitors had been damaged in result. Currently we just have the XGA monitors without touch screen. If you do not need touch screen function, please ignore this letter.
We had immediately ordered some new touch screen monitors, however this is the latest and the best selling products so the manufacturer is running out of stocks as well, and they can only supply them two weeks later. We would like to apologize for the delay and we will notify you again once they are in stocks. If you have made the payment please reply and let us know what you would like us to do:
1) We will refund the full payment
2) We will ship the monitors as soon as possible, in about two week's time. We will also send an extra headrest bracket as a gift. (You could mount the monitor on the seat headrest with this bracket)
Sorry for the inconvenience.
