crappy heat-shrunk xenarc cables?

Can someone with a new Xenarc "700TSV with USB Touchscreen" please tell me if their cables are spliced together with heat-shrink?
I just received mine today, and it has a manufacturing date of August, 2003.

The heatshrink is used in two places:

Where the proprietary main connector cable splits in to the VGA, Composite, Audio, and Touch cables
Farther down the Touch cable where a USB connector is spliced in

The heatshrink looks cheap, and I am wondering if I got screwed with my cables.
I would NOT expect this poor quality cabling from a $500+ device.

I purchased my 700TSV a few weeks ago, and my cables look the same as yours.

Where did you get yours from?

I got mine from ebay, but from what I hear is a reputable company.

A lot of overhead monitors also use propriatary cables with its cable soldered and heat shrinked to standard RCA jacks. Xenarc/gains is not the only video monitor that does this. So to answer your question, yes that's the right cable for it and yes its normal for LCD monitors to solder and heat shrink standard a/v cable to propriatary cables.

There is no need for huge HIGH QUALITY cables anyway. The voltage handled inside the screen are so small that any cable with any splice would suffice.

If it works, dont worry about it. When purchasing a LCD you are purchasing the Controller, LCD and backlight inverter with backlight. Why worry about simple wires? As long as it looks good "image wise" you are set.

well mine doesn't work fine. every other time i turn on my computer it won't recognize it. what i did was cut off the heat shrink only to find out that all the wires were broke and twisted together. what i need help is where the tan colored usb cable connects to the black usb cable. there are 4 wires in the tan and 3 in the black. tan= red black green and white. black= red black white. both of these have a ground that is the only thing still together. if someone could cut the shrink off of the connector and see what connected to where. i can't do anything without it. please help! send pictures!!

Connect them like this:

************ red == white **********
Black cable -> white == green <- Tan Cable
************ ground == black **********

My monitor is very unstable as well. Sometimes the resolution doesn't switch properly, leaving the video covering only 2/3 of the display. When this happens, the buttons on the front panel do not function, and of course the touchscreen is inoperable. On the few occasions that the power button on the monitor would function, a power cycle would correct the problem.

The problem seems to be less frequent if I don't allow the monitor to go into power-saving mode before booting the system, but it still happens every so often.

that would happen to me using my m9000 onboard video... my pci geforce4 fixed the 2/3 problem

Hmmm....I'm using an M10000, so maybe that's it. In my current case (external cd-rom case), I don't have room for a PCI card. Guess I'll have to live with it

heh.. i don't even use a case, but i would say every 3 out of 5 times the computer booted, the picture would be off to the side (after the latest bios/vga driver update)

since i found a flexible pci riser and had a pci geforce4 sitting around, i tried it out, and worked perfectly for me... the geforce is currently wire tied to the back of my glovebox

The goal was to make my system portable so I could move it between vehicles. Of course, I haven't move it since I installed it
