2002 VW GTI LCD Installs...any pics?
Hi. I've been looking for ideas to install a VGA LCD into my MkIV GTI (2002). Does anyone have any pics?
Thanks!

Installs are in the finished project section. If someone has one, that's where it will be.
Remember that hundreds of makes and models of cars are made every year, and there is a relatively small number of people who mod cars. Chances are against someone having already modded your specific make model and year.

Thanks. That might be correct if I was driving a '78 Chevette. However, I have a feeling I might run into one or two MkIV VWs around here.
Just trying to get a few ideas before I jump into this project!

There are actually quite a few mp3vw's on the board, and quite a few really nice mk4 installs.

All the fitment being done in the MkIV VW are using the in-dash kit for the LCD.
But I really would like to make mine having something similiar to the IS300 GPS unit.
Having a flipping module at the top of the center vents for the LCD. That'll be really cool.
I'm a newbie in this kind of modding. Anybody want to give some opinions? coz this could make the LCD invisible from theives, and the distance you need to move your eyes off the road is reduced.... ideas?

Where are you located? I have a 02 MKIV GTI that I am in the process of doing an install (a long slow install due to lack of time)... I'm in upstate NY.
I purchased an replacement frame (that the radio slides into) that I am fiberglassing my 7" LCD into.... I will post photos when I have more time and have a chance to do some serious work again. Right now I am experimenting on the workbench, doing software work and building my own shutdown controller for the fun of it!

I'm about an hour south of Memphis, TN. No chance for a view in person, but could you keep me posted with your pics? I was thinking of the exact same thing...getting the trim pieces/frame from a dismantled '02 MkIV. I have a 337 so I do NOT want to cut up the aluminum trim pieces.

hey... buy a 20th ae radio trim piece if you want to cut it up but not touch the car.. it's about $35 from the dealer and you can always return the car to stock when you choose. That is the option I choose.
If not take a look at the 7" in dash sliding LCD housings. they will fit in half your double din opening.
