Just got two units of the LCD TS from the guy in HK and I'm checking if they function properly. Appears that the TS version has some glare/reflection problems.

Give us a full report please, all of us have been dying to have a review of these overhyped cheaper touchscreen lcds.

How does it look in sunlight? Is it really USB? Is it true that the audio does not work when in VGA mode? Does it get super hot? THANKS A BUNCH!

well im new in here, been reading all about this lilliput 7" touch screen lcd, i got the run around, ray didnt even notice that mine was a non touch screen model, it took 5 emails for him to realise this and then by the time i got it , it was 2 weeks after i had actually paid for it on ebay, like mikkiner in here ive had isues with mine and im going for a replacment, when i got mine it looked as though it had been opend from the top of the lcd, all worked fine including the vga but there is no red, after countless hours of checking the cables it must be an internal problem or a broken ****ty wire inside of the cable, either way i get not red channel in vga, however in the video inputs i do get red so its an vga issue, another problem i get is the video in signal is abit jerky, that means when i plugg it into my sat tv set top box the picture flashes abit, maybe another ****ty cable , who knows but it seems funny how mike and i have defective units, id like to know how manny others out there have had issues in this particular lcd monitor, by the way ray told me nothing about an acident about the last of the touch screen orders, he told me because it was a contact problem with the touch screen unit and they are trying to fix it, hope this helps and get back to me.

this whole situation is starting to look really bad. If the lillput lcds are put together like crap (jury still out on this one) and the GAIN monitors have issues with the connector (put together like crap) what other options do we have for a VGA LCD that is made with quality in mind? And how long do we have to wait for that? My carcomputer has been down for 1 month, waiting for replacement lcd screen. I dont want the replacement to also have to be replaced and im not sure when ill recieve the replacement looking at all the post here about how stuff is being delayed because of about 2 or 3 different reasons.
Can anyone even confirm if dscustoms or digitalww have recieved there shpment of screens?

Just trying to use the two LCD units I received today. The VGA and Video are working fine, though the VGA input cable need some force to secure. The touch screen works fine (and it is a USB). The unit comes with a driver disc and the installation is straight forward. The TS works fine and quite accurate. The only problem I have is that the usual "close window" button at the upper right corner is at the rim of the sensitive zone of the touch screen and there is some difficulties in closing applications. Yet, there should be no problem if Media Engine is used.

I haven't tried it under direct sunlight but I'm satisfy with the brightness and sharp image. Will report in more detail later.

p.s. encountered a problem in using Media Engine, I could only got about 3/4 of the screen shown. Any help?

Thanks for the review

Thanks for the great review terry729 , so far it seems that there are only a FEW bad units out there and your two lcds are working fine. I guess it is expected the edge won't work as well...perhaps we'll have to do it the old fashioned way "file / exit" from now on.

Have you tried the audio while in VGA mode? There isn't any is there? Forgot to mention, who did you buy it from? The electric car guy from Ebay?

The top edge of my old touchscreen had the same issue of not being as sensitive as the rest of the screen. A quick way to fix it for me was to move the task bar to the top of the screen and add a little thickness to it. That way, when you maximize a window, the buttons arent at the top edge of the screen and the Start button is bigger than the closewindow button so there is no problem in tapping that from the top.

Or you can resize your desktop to only cover the useable area of the touchscreen.

Also, Terry729
"though the VGA input cable need some force to secure."

can you explain this more. What end of the VGA cable are you talking about, the end that connects to the computer or the end that connects to the LCD.
And by "force to secure" do you mean it was hard to connect it, or you would connect it and it kept falling out or was loose? Is this something you think will be an issue down the road?

Thanks

I had a similar problem with a monitor that I purchased for my mame cabinet a few years back. Hopefully, you're running xp because thats what my instructions will be for:
1. Right click on the desktop and select properties
2. Click on the setting tab
3. In the Screen Resolution box Scroll the slider to 640 by 480 or 800 by 600
4. In the Color Quality box select the lowest available.
5. Apply the changes and hook up the Liliput to see if it works.

If this doesn't help you out on the setting page click on the advanced button. On my machine this will bring up another widow-click on the adapter tab. Click on the list all modes button. Select the 640 by 480, 256 colors, 60 Hertz if available. Apply the changes and plug the Liliput in and see if it works. Hopefully you haven't already done all this, but I thought I'd try and lend a hand. Good Luck!

Some points to follow up:
1. Yes, there is no sound under VGA mode, as the audio input only comes with the V1/V2 signal cable and only be activated if the mode is set to V1 or V2. It doesn't cause a problem to me as I'd use the car's amp. for sound.

2. The point I raised on the VGA cable refers to the connection between the VGA/touch screen cable which comes out from the unit (the other end goes to the VGA out and usb of the computer). What I meant "force to secure" is that the connection may become loose and signal affected if the two ends are not securely connected. It would not be a problem as we could easily fix it with tape or other means.

3. I make order through ebay but noticed that the units would be sent from Hong Kong. So I tried to get their contact in Hong Kong and called the guy to arrange picking up the unit in person. The total cost I paid was US$263/unit plus the headrest bracket as I don't have to pay for the postage nor insurance.

3. The suggestions on solving the "close window" by TS are very useful. Thanks.
