where to mount lcd

ive been very troubled with deciding where to place an lcd in my car
i originally wanted in dash via a din slot but came to find out that the shifter obstructs the path for the lcd to slide out when in the park position
the idea of shortening the shifter was tossed around but i doubt any shop would do it because of liability concerns in the event of malfunction and im not going to attempt to do it myself

heres a pic of the dash area

i want to stay away from options where the lcd is clearly visible for security reasons
i dont want to create a target for theft

any suggestions? im very stuck

Simple solution is to move the radio to the bottom din and put the lcd in the top din. should be ok then.

Also the gear lever knob / handle just screw on and off on most cars. Just change it to a smaller after market one.

it would be rather silly anyway to have the lcd on the bottom slot

Hey aolhater, first, thanks for the mappoint. second, You've asked this questions so many times. I gotta tell you, you gonna have to build or relocate something on your dash to make it look decent. I dont know how familar you are with fiberglassing or how comfortable with cutting dashes. In anycase, you gonna have to suck it up and cut something, either your shifter or your dash. A cheap and fast way do solve your problem while still maintaining your factory dash is custom build an install kit that angles your indash monitor and CD player upwards. So when the LCD screen slides out, it doesnt slide out into your shifter. With the angled kit installed, the LCD would slide out at an angle and clears your shifter. When you wanna take your system out, remove the angled kit and you still have your factory dash. You dont need to cut your dash, shifters move your AC control around. A stereo shop shouldnt have any problem building a kit like that. If you still have problems you can goto the next meet (whenever there is one, I'll probably go too) and I can show you other ways.

i know, ive asked this way too many times
its so frustrating though, nothings seemed like a viable solution

i dont know **** about fiberglassing and i need the car to remain stock (no holes and such)

angling the lcd like that wouldnt allow the lcd to swin all the way out, it would be obstructed by the rest of the dash

i have no problem with cutting the shifter, thats actually the desirable thing to do but afaik no shop will do this. i have to inquire more

Put the shifter all the way back when you bring the screen out? (IE don't bring it out while you are in Park). I don't think there would be any chance of it hitting the shifter when it's fully out and standing up?

LOL

I love the tablet PC drawings!

I assume it is an automagic transmission...so who cares if the shifter is a little shorter...unless you like touching it all day long...

Why not have it above and rotate down...rather than out from below and rotating up?

I'm guessing you don't want to try to relocate your AC controls. It would take a bit of glassing but would look the best plus you would still have full access to them with the screen out.

That's where the Glassing comes in. It's not as wide as the bezel is it? you could make a nice overlay maybe add some carbon fiber to the works?
