Angry Lilliput 7" VGA and EPIA M9000 issues...

Well I sort of have things working, but something still does not make sense.

(Thanks NJay for the timings.. I started with those and played around a bit....
For those who are interested, NJay dumped a buttload of modes with their timings @ http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show...744#post131744

In windows on the EPIA-M 9000, I am still having driver issues... Both WinXP and Win2K complain about driver being misconfigured and either give me 640x480x4bpp or 800x600x16bpp with no valid modes to switch to. Powerstrip at this point either complains that the driver is not setup right, or starts up but the advanced timings button is greyed out always.

I have tried every version of the drivers... From the CD that the board came with, and the few versions from VIA's website...

In Linux, I configure the framebuffer (I use the VIA viafb.o kernel module), and everything works ok for modes like 640x480 and 800x600. However, when I configure for a custom mode like 848x480, i always get "Out of Range" on the lilliput.

Now, if I connect my desktop with a geforce2 (and right timing info) to the lilliput, the screen does 848x480@72Hz like a champ.. If I program the exact same timings from powerstrip on my desktop into the cle266 linux framebuffer device and try to look at it on the lilliput, boom... out of range..

It doesnt make any sense. I guess the VIA framebuffer device is not full featured and doesn't support some custom timings? That doesn't really make sense though.. And what about the stupid windows drivers issues?

Oh well.

Any one have any ideas?? Please help a brother out

P.S. I also tried hooking up the EPIA running linux to my viewsonic monitor, and I do get a signal that resembles 848x480.. its hard to tell.. Looks close enough

I believe the culprit in this case is my epia board.. I guess i'll have to pickup the M10000 nehemiah and see what happends with that one..

Anyone else with similar problems? Please weigh in....

is 800x480 or 848x480 a lot clearer visually than 800x600 or just a corrected aspect. cos I cant see any problem with 800x600 if you compensate in divx for the aspect when watching films and apart from viewing pictures (which im not gonna do much of) it seems a lot of bother for not much result.

First thing to figure out are the driver issue. Powerstrip wont do much good as long as the drivers are wrong. What are your driver version? bios ver?
Same prob without powerstrip installed?
I dont have a m9000, but someone else might be willing to find their driver version. (VGA_6.14.1.6-12.05.01 seems to be the downloadable ver.)

Yeah. I've been trying to fix the drivers, but to no avail. I tried the version you mentioned already and still things are broken. I tried on Win2K and XP SP1.. Same problems.. Can't get drivers to work right.. I don't know wtf is going on.

Sham: It looks MUCH better. Text is crisper, its less blurry. I highly recommend it to use it. I tried 800x480 also.. it looks ok. I have to tweak it a bit and see which i like better... 800x480 should be the cleanest is it is the native res of the panel...

Thanks.

Do a search in all forums for m9000 and peoples signatures will reveal some m9000 users to you. PM or mail them to get their version. They might be able to point you in the right direction.
I think i have seen a few m9000 users around.

Hmmm - whenever I tried to do any fancy timings with Powerstrip and my M9000 I got the same thing: nothing. Careful reading of the instructions informed me that the standard CLE266 video chipset was incompatible with Powerstrip. But from what I hear you all saying, some people have gotten the custom timings to work with their stock M9000s?

Cheers,

Taytay

Could someone try this modeline with Linux/XFree86 and the Lilliput 7".

Modeline "800x480" 31.5 800 860 940 1000 480 508 511 525

I tried it with a laptop that has an old neomagic chipset and it worked perfectly. I want to buy a small motherboard and would like to know if it works with the VIA EPIA boards.

Cheers

Join the club on problems with the M9000. I have a Datalux 10.4 inch touchscreen vga lcd and it won't pick up the signal from the video out on the motherboard OR a pci video card. The lcd picks up the output from my desktop computer with a ati 9500 pro, but won't pickup onboard video from the epia or the geforce 2 i installed into it. Totally ****ing me off....lcd doesn't turn on until it sees a video signal and it doesn't see a signal so it won't turn on.

I'm still having problems. but I'm not giving up, well... almost

I'm going to go to Fry's and pickup the M10000N and see if that works. If it does, I'm going to talk to VIA support re 9000 and their output signal.... We'll see.. But something tells me its all over but the crying.

I tried everithing you mentioned on M10000, all kind of drivers, linux, swaping desktop PC and monitor, it is the same, it does not work (848x480).
I started with linux, RH9, CLE266 driver says the shipset supports 848.... put BIOS upgrade description, that there is some vga fixes, or changes, i upgraded BIOS with 1.13, video drivers worked, but cant get 848x480 neither 800x480, digged in registry, no result (maybe I am editing wrong place in registry?)
I already think to get rid of this EPIA and build CarPC on MicroATX, with normal video on board
