Taking apart 7" TFT VGA monitor for custom install?
I apologize in advance if this has been answered but I didn't have much luck with the search.
Based on someone else's install on the same car, I would like to take the screen and components out of the monitor casing and have it fit like so:
How hard would this be for someone with average skills? Soldering required?
I am deciding between either a lilliput or the "new" xernac displays. I'll take whichever one is easier for this project.

hey afro,
same afro from freshalloy? i am getting a liliput and doing the same thing. from reading on this forum, the liliput is much brighter than the gain/xenarc screens (i currently have a xenarc flush mounted in my g35c). i did read a post about a guy who tried to take apart his liliput and ended up breaking the connector for the vga cable so be careful taking it apart. it shouldn't be too difficult to do the transfer. i know i could do it with the xenarc since i've taken that apart several times, and i'd say i have "average skills". the only soldering i could see being needed would be to relocate the buttons. my screen should be here in a few days as well as the lcd finisher from infiniti. i'll let u know how it goes.

I've taken apart the Liliput VGA monitor. Just be very careful when you split the case if you have the touchscreen installed. The touchscreen cable is very short any easy to break. Also the connector that attaches to the front panel buttons is one pin short of the connector it plugs into so note how its connected before detaching it.

Yeah, same guy from FA.
I was going to go wtih the Lilliput myself, but some vendor over at G35driver.com is offering a group buy discount on the xenarc for a couple of days. He says that the claims that lilliput are brighter are based on the older xenarc models. Not the new "ultrabright" ones. No clue if that is just a bogus pitch. Aside from the discount and the claim of a better model, xenarc will also honor the warranty if I take it apart. 60 days only instead of the full blown coverage. If something is to go wrong, it will most likely go wrong when taking it apart and putting it in the car.
Here is the thread of the guy who's picture I posted.

Isn't too bad to take apart at all, just becareful etc. I recently took my Xenarc apart and even painted th cover black, instead of that stupid silver.

Brighter isn't always better. I can barely see past my GAIN screen at night. I'd be driving blind if I had a lilliput in my car.
A signifigant number of people are also having a LOT of problems with the liliput's ranging from wiring shorts to faulty touchscreens to strange boot logos.
Just something to keep in mind...

For those who have taken it apart, couldn't you change out the inverter for a dimmable type?

Well, I took apart my screen. It was pretty easy. Now I just need to get it into that LCD holder like that one guy did.

The best I could do is flip it over and take a picture of the stuff back there. I wouldn't know what to look for, nor do I plan on removing any of the components back there. I just rearranged wires and tabs to get them out of the way. There are a total of 3 or 4 separate boards held together with connectors and soldered wires.

afr0puff,
Since you've taken it apart, I have a couple questions for you.
In the bottom picture, how far down does the green board extend past the bottom of the lcd? Can it be moved or is it pretty much stationary? How deep is it without the casing?
I'm sure I have more questions but will wait until later.

Why take them apart and then CRY if something goes wrong. When you can get them in parts just hook it up the way you feel like..
As for the brightness belive me anthing more, i would wear sunglases at night.!
Cheers
