Ouch, tough luck. Take a bunch of pics and post them, maybe someone have good ideas what to do.
If not, we might prevent killing our own screen if we know what not to do when taking it apart. I planned on taking mine apart out of curiosity, but i think i will wait....

Retaining clips? How would that destroy it? Post pics so we better understand.

ill try to shoot some tonight
the clips lock the band cable in place in the holder with the actual connections in it, without it wont position properly.

be very carefull when making them loose, the one on the motherboard slides to the side aproxx 3 mmto open, the one on the panel flips open 90 degrees to open.

For every problem there is a solution.....

Post some pictures and perhaps there is an easy solution for your problem.
Can't you use your soldering iron and some wires to reconnect te board?

there are about 50 wires in the cable, a hair thick and a hair apart so i dont think thats an option.
i can work very precise, have great equipment (electronic engeneer) but i think matters will go to worse.

i have a old 7" lcd with the same with connectors, i am going to try to modefy the connectors to fit those of the liliput ones.
also sent a desperate mail to cartft.com, maybe they can take some of a brokens screen or something.

Hot Glue.... As long as you never want it back off again.

I would try the hot glue option that dscustoms mentioned. A friend and I had the same problem with a xenarc screen a while back and the only way we could get the ribbon to stay in without the pressure from the clips was to insert the ribbon with the broken clip ... apply pressure and drown it in hot glue.... when we turned it on it worked fine, but never try to remove the glue because it might peel the circuit away from the board. ... You could also try the Digikey catalog www.digikey.com for a replcement ribbon connector. Good luck and I hope it works out.

I've fixed that problem before. The ribbon will center without the clip. You just need a thin plastic piece cut to wedge in with the ribbon, and secure with tape.
