I reckon straight would be best. And yeah if you can play around with fibreglass then thats going to be the best for a professional look. Just search around, there should be some tutorials about it.

How did it go
How did it go for you? I have a fiat brava and am just trying to mount my screen too. If you have done it then please sharen your success and problems.
Or if anyone has any other advice please post! :-)
Additionally one option I am currently looking into is to move the controls down, produce an aluminium "insert" to go between the controls and the top stereo area, then cover / paint it to match the dash with the screen mounted inside.
The aluminium should be easier to get an "organic" shape and then once coated will look like everything else.
Additionally I am thinking of recessing it so that I can make a cover plate to go over it to deter theives see s se es e s es.
Thankies
Dave

If you are adventurous enough, i would tell you my idea of my 2nd carputer project. My dash is very simmilar to yours. I would cut a slot the length and width ot the screen as seen from birdseye view at the top of the centre heat vents (e.g top centre of the dashboard). Disable the centre heat vents. Get to rails from a drawer, which comes to the thicknedd of the screen. Get 2 small electric motor as seen in remote control cars, powerful enough to eject the screen up(e.g with the weigh of the screen). The rectangle slot panel that came out of your dashboard stick it on top of the touchscreen. Things like where to mount the motors, how to get it synchronised and smooth operation would be looked in depth once you have started to gather the bits and pieces. Wire up the electric motors to your car's ACC line. Make a circuit board so that the wire's polarity is reversed when you switch off the ACC line so the screen goes back down. Have a sencor or proximity reed switch at the bottom of the travel so the motors switch off when inside the dash. Also have a seperate switch to overide the automatic slot in/ out of the screen. This IS NOT impossible. This IS what i'll be doing. Good luck. It would have been easier to explain if i drew a sketch of it. I'll try to post a sketch later. Tell me if you are interested.

Not trying to discourage you, but that screen is very high. You'll likely have glare issues. More importantly it will be quite visible to police.

An electric power window motor would be perfect for this application

police interest
Talking of screens and police...
Has anyone (particularly in the UK) had any problems with this? My previous screens were mounted low down, but that's a pain for GPS so my plans for this version put the screen right at the top of the dash under an anti glare hood. I did'nt think it would be a problem, as long as they didn't CATCH me watching Winamp viz's or DVD's as GPS screens are fitted in many new cars anyway....
