TM-701L Questions (Armen - Please read!)

I am getting ready to buy an LCD display for my 2002 Maxima. I have a double DIN, but I think I want to use a flip out LCD and a separate HU for radio . . . I want the LCD display to be good enough for MP3/WMA playback as well as for GPS, etc.

I've been seriously considering the TM-701L and I've read most of the posts on this message board regarding the display. I'm looking for some feedback from everyone - what's the general consensus? Is this display good? Will it suit my needs? I know I'll have to buy a GeForce card and use the "TV Tool" software with it to get it to display properly.

I sent Armen an e-mail to www.digitalww.com a few weeks back, but I never got a response and this concerns me somewhat. It looks like www.digitalww.com is out of stock on many of its displays and I am concerned about using PayPal to place on order for something that may not be available . . .

Here are some of the questions I'd e-mailed to Armen:

"Could you please confirm that you have the part in stock(TM-701L)?
Also, if I understood some of the earlier posts on the message boards correctly, it "should" be possible for me to upgrade the controller for that monitor at some later date to make the display into a VGA display if I wanted to, is that right? Do you sell the controller to do that? And, if so, how much does it cost?

Would you sell the manual DIN flip out unit separately? If so, is it available now and how much does that cost? "

Armen, if you're reading this, it would be great if you can answer my questions. If anyone else could provide me with the answers that would also be a big help.

Thanks!

Andy

I too have sent some emails to digitalww.com without reply, most likely due to this recent holiday or Armen not checking a certain email account...

In addition to what you had asked, I also had other questions.

1. On the site for the "TM-701L (Black)" the pictures of the unit have a model number of "TM-702LY" which made me worry that the Panasonic LCD that is suppost to be in the "TM-701L (Black)" most likely isn't in the "TM-702LY", which is the unit in the pictures. So, which is it?

2. If I buy the "TM-701L (Black)" from digitalww.com and I get the one in the pictures for that product's page, then I would be getting a "TM-702LY", and is this monitor as good as the original "TM-701L (Black)" ?? Can I still get a vga kit for a "TM-702LY"??

3. Is "TM-701L (Black)" or "TM-702LY" just painted black?

All I can say is it is quite confusing.

PLZ respond as soon as possible Armen, so I can BUY one off you, after you answer our questions ))

Thanks.

dont think they are the same???

AFAIK

TM-701L = original Panasonic panelled display with panel res of 800xRGBx480 that can be upgraded to VGA via a new controller.
TM-702L = Replacement model with the Hitachi panel (Panel res of 440xRGBx234) in it that isn't VGA upgradable.
TM-7002S = same as the TM-702L i.e has a hitachi panel in it but it standalone rather the flip out.

interesting. cause i was just basing the details off of armen's site, and the 7002s states

-Screen size: 7" (diagonal 16:9)
-Active Matrix TFT LCD Monitor
-Panasonic (EDTCB18QCF)LCD Panel
-PAL/NTSC auto selector
-Resolution: 2400 (H) x 480 (V)
-Viewing Angle (L/R:50 deg U/D:25 deg)
-Full function remote with OSD
-2 video input
-Power Input: 12 V DC
-Power Consumption: <6W

i remember emailing him about this and i think he said it was the panasonic panel that was in the 7002s.
hopefully it's the panasonic panel.

Did you actually talk to someone there or did you just send a PayPal payment? I've tried calling the sales number a few times during daytime hours and all I get is a machine. I sent an e-mail the the digitalww sales e-mail a few weeks ago and I never got a response. I posted this message and didn't get a response. I PM'd "DigtialWW" on mp3car.com and I haven't gotten a response.

Call me crazy, but without being able to successfully correspond with anyone from DigitalWW I am somewhat concerned about submitting a PayPal or Credit Card payment . . .

By the way, is the TM-701L the screen with the black screen case?

I too am a bit concerned...

Not only have I sent numerous emails, but I have called many times leaving my phone number and told him to call me back to make a sale and he hasn't, which also makes me want to beleive he hasn't gotten those calls ;p

Although, I look at digitalww's ebay sales record, and it is 100% positive out of like 500 people and see only good things about them.

My only guess is that he paints the 701l/702l lcds black in color. I just hope that the TM-701L Black for $245 IS WHAT it says it is, and that it ISN'T the TM-702LY model which is in all the pictures, it's a little disconcerning. And, for the longest time, digitalww.com sold the 'TM-701L black' off ebay for $235, so we should get it for that price , heh.

Anyway, Armen, plz answer our questions from the above area in this post as soon as you want more money!

From what I can see most suppliers from the far east seem to use the 701L and 702L interchangeably as I bid on a TM-701L and recieved a TM-702L in the box (they have the same outer packaging too)

I have just done a random look of some ofh those on ebay.uk and here's another one.

http://www.tailand.com.cn/eshop/sg702.htm

SGDQ are the manufacturer of these screens.

What I'm saying is that with most resellers its probably a lottery. DigitalWW seem to go that bit further and may well check the panel type they are getting in each one.

Also, I wouldn't blame Armin for those stats ase even SDSQ quote the Tm-701L as having a maximum res of 1440x234. This is just the cability of the composite controller board and its underselling its real potential. The panel res on the panasonic panel in the TM-701L has a native res of 2400x480 and hence why a replacement vga controller gives you VGA 800xRGBx480 output and this is what Armin has tapped into and now offers as an ungrade. The Hitachi panel definately used in the TM-702 I have (and I really do suspect in the 7002s) is only 1440x234 or 480xRGBx234 in real terms and hence is inferior to the Panny panel.

I am back (http://www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/off-topic/19356-where-armen-digitalww.html) and I am working. I will try to get back to everybody today and tomorrow.

I just received a fresh order of TM-701L and TM-7002S (both Panasonic LCD Panels) so I am going through them right now. I will post more a little later.

Thanks,
Armen

Thank you for the update - I (we?) had no idea what had happened to you . . . However, I'm glad that your son has arrived and that he is healthy!

Thank you

He is definitely a great addition to the family

I should've warned everybody better about the delays but the time came and we had to go. But I am definitely back.

Armen
