Finally build in my Lilliput LCD screen into my car :D
And it looks awesome tbh :
http://www.industrialnation.nl/nep/img_0236.jpg
Just 1 small problem, perhaps you guys have had the same problems...
I'm getting a small 'flickering' in dark area's, now I'm not yet sure what it is...
Could be the monitor cable getting interferance from the car... The PC is in the back, so there's a 5-meter monitor cable attached which runs to the front...
Could be perhaps a dirty powersource, although I left the small gray box on on the cig-lighter powersupply that came with the LCD monitor...
Any idea where I should look to first?
Its not 'that' bad, for some reason its only in dark area's, not in light area's, and I get a bit of distortion in the post-window, think thats the computer itself though as I had the same when I was testing the monitor in my house with another monitor cable...

That's an impreza right? You can get a doghouse for your clock and put your headunit there.

Nice work, what about your controls? Did you take them off or is it still there, just hidden? How do you turn your monitor on, change settings, etc...? You have a picture of before and after?
You have a website of your work?

The controls have been cut off and are dangling behind the LCD-screen, the flat-cable (paper-like) that connected the buttons has been changed/extended with a piece of UDMA-66 IDE cable The soldering wasnt done by me though, as it was very small...
Once I turn off the car, the monitor loses signal and then goes into standby mode, I still have to measure how much power it uses in standby, but doubt it'll be a lot... And I drive my car regurlarly, so wont be a problem... I hope
Since only my computer is attached and the LCD screen always has power, I (in theory) should never have to change the screen's settings... The initial idea was to extend the cable of the buttons 'part' so I could put it in the gloves compartment, but that was impossible (at least not the entire button 'part', as its still in tact but detached from the rest of the screen body)...
No website yet, as I forgot to make pictures during construction
And it is indeed an Impreza, but I have no need for a head unit...

Nice install! How about some details on how you did it.
I have some flickering in my Xenarc also. I'm not sure what causes it because its there when the engine is off also. If I plug it into an AC source it doesn't flicker.

Is that a Impreza WRX? STI? Regular Impreza?
Have you test drive a EVO? What would you recommend a Impreza STI or EVO 8?

STI all the way. I'm a big Mitsubishi fan, but the STI is simply a better car. Stock off the lot, the STI is faster too. Just don't get the blue one with gold wheels. That's heinous!

You could try these on the power and/or video cables.

Re: Evo vs STI
I don't know too many Evo owners that leave their car totally stock though BTW, have you driven an Evo? I've driven both, and they are different, that's all. And my Evo is certainly faster than an STI, but it isn't stock, that's for sure I will say that the STI is much more comfortable, except for in the turns due to those seats.

I have driven both Evo and STi. I own a SVX and Galant so I have a subaru and mitsubishi.
Between the two, I am going to pick STi since I am a FHI fan. Both are not my style but I think handleing is a lot better in STi compare to EVO. I like the EVO seats though.

I havent tried ferrite filters on the power cables, but their on the monitor cable (by default)...
And I wouldnt dare drive a regular Impreza The Impreza I drive now is the WRX 2003 (for you US people, its the same as your 2004 model, we just have different model numbers ), bought it about 3-4 weeks ago and I couldnt be happier... Even though its not that different to my Impreza GTT '98, its just a bit more comfertable...
I've thought about both the STi and the Evo... But the STi is just too expensive, I can tune this one up to +300 HP by just another Turbo & engine management(ok and open exaust ) ... I'd rather do that then buy the STi (as it is a bit more uncomfertable, or so I heard) and way more expensive...
And the Evo, I've never driven it... I was going to get one, but the Evo 6 2nd hand is as expensive as the WRX brand new... Then add to it that the Evo (according to the dealer) needs an oil change every 6000Km, compared to the WRX at 12000Km...
Seeing the WRX is my everyday car, and I drive 120Km per day, it just wouldnt be all to practical...

Just to echo what somebody else asked...
I'm trying to do the same thing to my STI. Are there any details as to how you mounted the LCD that you can share?

Here's a pic of my STi install.

My PC is in the trunk also with cable running down the center, but I get no distortion on the display. I removed the back of the case from the Xenarc and trimmed the bottom half inch from the front, then glued the front bezel to the back of the 2DIN opening in the dash. I removed the buttons and led and mounted them around the screen on the console.

this is one of my posts from another thread:

Power on (Green LED) / pc running: 550mA
Power on (Green LED) / MediaCar running: 560mA
recognize i have a cheap Metex meter ... it's not the best ... so these numbers may be a little off.
