flat screen lcd monitor power question

I have a 15" flat screen lcd desktop monitor that i want to put in my camaro. Is there any way of powering it instead of an inverter? i have an opus 150 watt PSU powering my car comp. And i was just wondering if i can hardwire the desktop monitor to my cars electrical system? or is there any monitors that can be wired directly to the electrical system? 10"- 17" is the smallest/biggest i can go. thanks for any help

There's ubdoubtedly a way to do it without an inverter, but not many details about how to can be given without more details for the LCD. Is there an external powerbrick? if not, what's it look like under the hood?

if there isn't an external power brick you have to question whether it's worth the trouble...

LCD's are powered in two main ways as a desktop model. A standard PC power cable from the wall to the LCD or a "wall wart" / "Power Brick" arrangement.
This device takes house current and changes it to the voltage the LCD really needs (usually 12 volts DC)

So if you have a power brick model LCD that is 12 volts DC you could power that from the car 12 volt line or the PC power supply 12 volt line. Be sure you understand the power requirements for the LCD as you could damage your LCD.

The other type has the same type of electronics to change the voltage to what the LCD needs only it is inside the LCD housing. You could power it from your car also but you would need to understand the circut inside the LCD housing and open the case to connect the power (no warrenty any more).

Hope that helps. I would suggest searching for "LCD power" you should find several related discussions.

It is bright as all H3LL.... I have the contrast and brightness turned down to 30%....

It would burn your retnas out if you stared at it with factory settings.

I have not had the time to cut the connector... so it has only been temp installed for one road trip (with an inverter). I am still considering how to mount it and what solution to use for a case.

Cheers
