Hi all, does anyone know how best to power the lilliput touchscreen, was 1st thinking of wiring cigarette lighter plug into the back of the cigarette lighter socket in the car, then thought about wiring it into my opus power supply some how?

I ran a line from my Opus in the trunk too. That way it will only receive power when the computer is on.

so just connect the 2 wire from the car cigarette adapter to the +12 and -12 output to the motherboard power supply cable? as in connect the 2 wire to 2 of the wires on the atx block(20 wires), or do i wire it to the opus some other way?

Thanks

No, you can power the Lilliput monitor directly from the Opus's regulated +12V output without going through the car cigarette adapter. Here's what I did - run two wires (18 AWG) from the Lilliput to the Opus. At the monitor end of the wire, solder a barrel plug (get the correct size) that fits into the monitor's DC in jack. At the Opus end, I soldered the wires into a Y power splitter (+ve to yellow and -ve to black) - the one that has a female connector that plugs into the Opus 4-pin power connector for hard disks and splits into 4-pin hard disk power connectors. This way you can disconnect the wire if you need to bring the PC into the house.

The tricky part is getting the polarity right. Measure the voltage at the barrel plug BEFORE plugging it into the Lilliput. The center connector should be +ve and the outer connector should be -ve.

What if you connect straight to the battery? THe lilliput cant tolerate 14V?

Connect it to your battery at your own risk... (don't do it)

Power = Current * Voltage

or

Watts = Amps * Volts

So it would draw approx 6.72watts when running at ON/VGA 560mA @ 12vdc

Not bad...

Thanks for the info, so could i not just use the cigarette adapter that comes with it and take off the plug at the end and wire it to the opus? so if i did this would i still need the in line power thingy, or can i take that off as well?

Thanks for replyin

NOT the -12v! If you do that, you'll end up with a PD of 24 volts across your Lilliput!

I would say you could eliminate the power "egg" regulator that comes with the Lilly and just wire directly to the +12v regulated output from Opus, unless your system current drain is already exceeding it's capability. You need to do a little homework to find out how much current you mobo pulls from the +12 Opus supply.
