best 16:9 resolution for xenarc 700tsv?

I just put a geforce4 in my epia m9000 so i could have good video and custom resolutions, set the thing to 848x480, and everything looks like crap, what would be a better resolution?

Well...the actual resolution they are is 800x480...if you can get it to do that, then you'll be mustard

Maybe because you're using a GeForce card. Try an ATI. You will convert rather quickly...

Russ, What generation is your Xenarc? Mine's is the first generation. It shows 848X480 perfectly. The second generation Xenarc that can display XGA will not display 848X480 properly. It looks like dog ****. I remembered my 2nd gen Xenarc displayed 1280X768 quite well. If you can get your video card to do 1024X600 that would be killer. My ATI AIW radeon DDR can do 1024X600 but I got rid of my 2nd gen xenarc so I couldnt test it out. I think the new controller that Xenarc put in cant handle wide screen format as well.

I run 800x600 on my Xenarc display, and it looks pretty good

If you're worried about things being out of proportion, then make/use a skin for your front end software that was designed to be used on a widescreen display, but has been modified to look great on an 800x600 display

Depending on the software you're using, you can stretch it.

I know for sure that MediaCar can change the "zoom" level, so that it looks right when played back

i think powerdvd5 no longer has the option to change resolutions to adapt to the picture size

If you can display higher than 480 lines of resolution then it's the 2nd generation. The next step up is 1024X600. It's the wide screen resolution for 800X600. If you can get your video card to do 1024X600 then everything will look proportioned.
