Ok,

I recieved the 4820-4ft that I ordered. The details in the thread have become obvious now that I see the 'problem' connectors. I have read that one user could use the hpcn20 --> DVI connector fine with his model. Would that same cable work fine via DVI for the 4ft also? I would like to verify before I purchase. Or maybe use that cable and a DVI-VGA adaptor that I have laying around here? Or are the pin configurations totally different. I have the serial problem worked out already and a 'detachable' cable I made from a (one sided 7 pin) serial ATA cable was dremmeled and it fits nicely in there.

I would not know if just using a dvi cable and converter would work, remember its a socket deisgned to use pure digital, and your putting on a converter to go to analog, if it works, great.

Me, I would buy the digital cable and cut the pc end off, and fit a vga plug.

(but I could not find a cheap uk local supplier for the cable, so just 'pigtailed' the ibm)

I have both, a hpcn20 cable and an adapter (hcpn20 to DVI-D), Neither works
not all the pins on the adapter have a corresponding pin on the DVI end.
Also, the HCPN20 cable Has several necessary pins not connected.

Thanks for the fast response guys. I have another "solution" but not as nice as the pure hpcn20 cable would be. Will get out the dremmel and try that out first. Lez, I would try it your way but my soldering skills are very poor! Thanks again!

IBM 4820 POS Monitor

Hi Lez, A bit new to this.
I came upon a working IBM 4820 touch screen monitor.
I took a risk a purchased it, in the hope that when I got home I could buy the rest of the cables/software to get it back up and runnig again. I have been reading your threads, and can see you know what your doing. The monitor works fine as a monitor all be it in lowish resolution and comes with the LCD/rgb cable that plugged staright in and the power cable. The touch screen clicks as you press the screen implying that that works too, but I can see from what you have published on the forum, its beyond me, as I am not that technically minded. In short, are you interested in buying it, or know anyone else that could use it, as i suspect it will end up in my attic. Thanks - Danny

you are only 1 cable short, and its only 3 wires to get the TS working.

And you probably on the wrong side of the water from me.

Hi Lez, I'm Leicestershire UK. It a little frustrating not knowing how to complete the job, with my limited knowledge. You would be doing me a great favour if you spell it out for me. I picked up from your previous threads, 3 wires directly soldered in the back , form a com port on the PC, with a little additional com port reading software, I could get a result. I am willing to have a go. I undertsand if its putting you out, but could you help? Much appreciated, Danny

well this thread (and some of my others) had wiring diagrams etc but a long time ago UK people were having problems logging in, didnt seem to affect US log in though, so with this unreliability the diagrams were removed and moved to a uk digital car site

I'm not sure if I can link it etc but if you go to the site and search 4820, it will no doubt be the top search result.

I dont think I can even give the site url, I know at one point it was either not allowed or frowned upon etc - google is your friend.
