Oh nevermind, I think you're trying to say something totally different.

I forgot what the supplied cable that plugs in the USB port look like. So now it seems that the supplied cable has the power connections, all you need to do is supply 12V to the cable and it will go thru the USB like connector on the lilliput.

I didnt realize it can be powered by two options.

So essentially, that USB extension you spliced, it was all just so that you can bring the USB port connector to the back of the TM701L correct?

1) the usblike connector...i made the extension cord go out to about the same length as the video signal feed and tie wrapped everything together.

2) i did not connect anything directly mean....at the end of the usblike ext cable that we just made, i plugged in the cable that came with the lilliput giving us the vid audio and power leads. in the power lead goes the cig lighter adapter, which i cut off the adapater part and that is what i connected to the molex adapter. i was just thinking ahead for serviceablity with all these extra connections. yes it could be simplified and less wiring used, but i'm lazy

one more question, the usb like connector in your pic41, pin 1 is the one closest to the plug-in power supply? or the other way around?

doh i must have forgotten to make that clearer. ok i'm pretty sure it was the top side of the picture was pin 1...however double check that with a multimeter.

hehe. Double check against what? =) What reading am I supposed to be looking for? I already taken out the original USBlike connector and lost it.

hehe ok...remember how i took a usb ext cable and cut it in half? one a female and the other end is male.

now we want to use the female end to connect to the board. what i did was stick the multimeter tips inside the female connector (wow that sounds dirty) and test for continuity for each pin and figure out what color wire it goes to. remember the pattern will be the same on the board on the controler. then just wire it up and test it.

Alrighty, I didnt do what you said. I just remembered the position of the USBlike connector, and ground had to be outside, and pin 4 (the one if you're looking into the female connector) its the leftmost pin had to be the power.

i used the multimeter to check between the other end of the USBlike plug (power connector) with the built-on-card power connector to check the ohm.

I think it should be right no? can somebody confirm?

hmm well on the lilliput there are two ground points from the usblike connector. that seems like a feasible way to determine what wire goes where, from what i recall the info i gave was pin1 on the left looking to the female connector but i don't remember and i'm not pulling it apart lol. well plug it in and see if it turns on lol...if you see smoke unplug it :-P

11) Look at this picture and see how the wire is ran for the vga/touch signal. it was the pain in the rear to get it in there, i had to remove every screw i could and then that the damn thing was glued in there. The clear plastic part is what i'm referring to. Tie wraps are your friend from here on out.

Spyhunter, how did you deal with this part? I removed all the screws too and found out that the plastic part was glued there! So how did you get the cable into that slot as in your picture? DId you release the glue or what?

lol well it was a pain in the *** as you've obviously found out already. i just took a knife or screw driver and worked on it until it came out...its glued and screwed in there. its just the 4 obvious screws. anyhow the reason WHY you have to do this is because the lilliput has that short as svideo looking connection (which is really vga and touch signals) and its so short that when you actually get it all together, its nearly impossible to close. routing it through that little hole saves enough room to close the screen reliablely. btw i have more pics of it fully assembled in the car if any one wants to see it

I've ordered one of these housing for my lilliput, is there any reason you cant do away with this connector and solder the cable direct to the monitor, you then remove the hassle of this connector and also lessen any chance of it working its way apart. Thats my plan anyway.. I will up the pic's soon as I get it next week.

ps. I was also thinking about scrapping the cable and routing one which would include 2 extra wires for the 12v feed from the egg.. just wondered if I would come across any probs with this.. I guess theres only oneway to find out..

if you scrap the egg, then i would recommend you run power from the psu of your carputer. do not run it directly from the car battery

what cable are you referring to soldering direct to the board? power? vga/touch signal? the usblike connector for V1/V2 signals?

I'm installing my Lilliput into the in-dash housing now. I'm also having problems with the 9-pin mini-DIN connector - the VGA signal is intermittent and I have to push the connector in real tight before the signal is OK. Here's how I am wiring it up:

a. +12V, GND, Video1, Video2: Using the 5 wire ribbon cable that comes with the housing. This is already pre-wired to carry +12V, GND, V1 and V2 from the 6-pin mini-DIN cable that comes with the housing. I intend to replace the mini-DIN with the V1/V2/Audio/+12V that comes with the Lilliput (cut off the USB end and wire it into the small PCB at the back of the housing.

b. VGA + USB touchscreen: Add a 9 wire ribbon cable from the display housing to the back of the in-dash housing. Cut off the head (9-pin mini DIN) of the Lilliput's VGA/touchscreen cable and splice it into the ribbon cable.

c. Drill a small hole on the display bezel, install a bicolor (red/green) LED and wire that to the Lilliput's display controller.
