yeah I agree with getting rid of that connector, mine also aint to clever and has to be pushed in hard to get a good connection. I have been looking at the connectors on the lilliput, have you made sure you can connect both the VGA and V1/V2 in at the same time ? It seems one lets you power the lilliput through this din, I havent taken my multimeter to it yet.. but I think I'm just going for the VGA/USB and power, having a V1 would be nice to have spare. So far I'm looking at using the vga cable soldered direct to the lilliput, and stripping down the other connector and removing the power wire from it, maybe srink wrapping it in a few places along the way to keep it neet. think this has to be planned, and not rushed into as it will save u lots of hassle if you get it right..
hmm just been looking at the leads I got with my lilliput, it seems I have been sent the wrong v1/v2 ones..

ok after doing alittle reading, it seems the cable on a ide computer cable is good to 300Volts.. :-) so you would need 12 wires in total, 6 for the VGA, 4 for the USB and 2 for power.. Think this is the way to go.. also thinking about putting connecters on either end of these cables, a 14 pin one, double header. This would enable me to disconnect the unit. What do you think ?
so to make things alittle clearer..
lilliput screen --> into 14pin head socket
|
ribbon cable inhousing
|
into 14pin head socket --> into current VGA&USB
--> into Egg
you would then have two fly leads coming out the back of the unit

pretty good idea, i thought about it and just decided that it was more work than i wanted to do...however it does take a bit of muscle to get the latch to release on mine

as I seem to be missing the correct v1/v2 cable, does this plug into the don plug or the usb socket on the side ? or how do you get the v1/v2 to work
cheers

usb socket on lilliput.....power...v1...v2 and audio input for the built in speaker, press the input source button on the screen to toggle inputs. look at the links in the first posts in this thread for the WRX site that has a lot of info for the screen

thanks fella.. I didnt get one of these leads in the box with mine.. maybe its worth running a wider ribbon cable down, to include v1/v2 inputs.. might be a idea..
checked out the link, looks good, would only need to add some more wires to the ribbon cable to include these.. 2 infact if i'm not going to fit the speaker.. As the header sockets are 14 pins anyway.. then thats it.. :-)
thanks for the info m8..

I just tried using a 10 wire ribbon cable to carry the VGA + USB touchscreen controller signals and ran into problems. The cable is too stiff - when you try to out the monitor back into the housing, the cable bunches up and prevents the monitor from latching into the housing. I guess that's why the housing uses a flex cable instead. I'm going to try using a spare 13 wire flex cable from my junkbox to see if this works better.

ok, I dont know how your putting your ribbon cable in the housing, and I havent got mine as yet to try, but if you mounted the wire vertical I would of thought it would have more room to coil up, rather than mounting it horizontal. just a idea.

Excellent job! I wish I had this info when I did mine. But it's done now, I kinda skipped over the switches but I may take it apart and do those this weekend, or next, I'm not in any hurry. I am not looking forward to de-soldering the PCB that is currently connected to the switches....i guess you did that also?

I found out that problem latching the monitor was caused by the power/V1/V2 cable. It was protruding a tad too much from the backplate and prevented the monitor from moving back the 1/8" or so needed to unlatch it. The ribbon cable works fine now, mounting it vertical is a good idea. I spliced the ribbon cable to the VGA/touch cable (the one soldered to the Lilliput) so I can use the original VGA/touch extension cable (the one going to the PC).

This part isn't too hard - with the excellent photo from CdRsKuLL, it's even easier since the solder points are spaced far apart. There's no need to desolder or remove the 8-pin connector on the switch PCB - just solder the 8 wires directly to the corresponding points on the component/switch side of the board.
I did have problems getting the IR sensor to work after I transplanted it to the new switch PCB. I don't really need the remote anyway so it doesn't bother me.

Great site cdrskull. Too bad I finished my installation somewhat. Just maybe I'll add the infrared later. Right now all I've connected was the power connector and that was tough as hell. Maybe with your diagrams it could have been easier.
What's lacking on your site is how you connected the other end of your ribbon cable, the one with the VGA. Because using ribbon cables would be much easier to close the panel.
Where are you getting the replacement touchscreen from? any links?

hi fella, I'm going to redo afew things when my touchpanel comes.. I decided I had two choices. Either buy another lilliput HERE (£195 all in) or buy another touchscreen from Digitalww ($100+$20 postage + £21 import tax= £100). I decided to buy another lilliput, I know this is a bit extreme, but as its only the touchscreen I need, the lilliput would still be working.. so 1. I have loads of spare parts, 2. A working second monitor for future projects ? who knows..
The power,v1/v2 cable I've used I will grab a picture of that for you. I will also be changing the connections inside prob going to solder a 10 wire ribbon cable direct to the pcb rather than have that connection.. this then will allow me to use the din connection on the back of the unit. Even with the 14 wire cable it does shut easy, infact one handed is no prob's.
I got a bit dishearted when my screen cracked.. gutted infact. I even had one of them moments when jumping on the housing was a good option.. I didnt luckly enough.. went and had a smoke instead.. Anyway.. should be only afew days for the new screen to come... will update my site then.
cheers
