Hacking my Morotized screen.

Ok so I have this screen:

I want to turn it into a VGA screen. So all I need is a VGA controller? Correct?

I already took it apart and it has the same Panasonic LCD Module that Armen sells. But do I need an Inverter or anything else?

Also what would be a good LCD Controller solution? I cant seem to find one via google.

What LCD panel is inside? Can you take pictures of all the components?

If it is the same LCD Panel than the Gain/Xenarc controller and inverter will work.

What about the electronics that control the motors? Are they on the main Video controller or on a separate circuit?

Let me know.

Armen

Then the controller (xenarc/gain) will work. If you take your LCD panel and the controller out of the housing, does it still slide in and out?

This could be a very simple mod. Just have to try. The controller will definitely work. Also you will need to figure out how to run the VGA cable.

Can you get any pictures?

Armen

I'm at work now. I will try to post some pics tonight.

Will I still need an inverter? I never understood exactly what they do anyway.

Also how much is the xenarc/gain controller?

the backlight are using CCFLs, and they run on high freq AC generated from the inverters

with no inverters you have no light and can see nothing.

The backlight still needs an inverter to power it.

You will need an inverter ($10), VGA Controller and Cable ($160).

Take some pics of the mechanism if you can and every other angle inside the housing.

In this particular monitor the inverter is built-in into the video controller. It is not built-in on the VGA Controller and it comes as a separate PCB. Once he removes the video controller he will have no inverter and will need one.

Well it does NOT look like my idea will work.

I have completely dissasembled the screen.

There are 3 control boards. One on the back of the lcd module and one in the case itself and a small one that controls the motors. All controls go through the first board (back of module) then to the main board via a ribbon cable. The main board is where power/rca input is.

Then there is a similar but smaller ribbon cable that goes to the small board that controls the motors.

I am pretty sure I could switch out the control board with a vga board. But I would have no way of controlling the in/out and up/down motors.

I wonder, Armen if I sent it to you... do you think you might be able to figure something out? I realy want to keep my motorized features, but want to be able to have a more clear display for GPS purposes.

I would pay you of course.

Let me know.

Thanks,.

Greg
