How does one go about getting a custom bezzel made? Curiosity's setup has me rethinking the hide away indash LCD idea, but it looks to me he's using a custom made bezzel. Even though the LCD is in plain view, it just looks too damn cool .

Trust me guys, the bezel I made was a lot of work. Thw wire harness I got was here. I think the 21 pin for the front and 32 for the amp. Look at yours to make sure. One thing to remember is the head unit drives the 4 tweeters and is also the input for the power amp, which drives the 4 midrange and 2 dual voicecoil subs. There are also bass-blockers on the tweeters inside the doors, and the mids in the doors are 2-ohm. Just so you know what you're getting into.

Not yet, but when I'm done (and I know it works) I will post pics. I just started this project and haven't got all the parts yet to finish... Over the past 2 years, I've been writing the software for it. (I'm not a very fast programmer, but I make it bug proof!) And because the GUI for it is made in Flash, I wanted a BIG monitor to see the beauty of the graphics.

My Firebird is a 97. I have the Formula. >:-D

Hmm ... couldn't I hook up the carputer, which would probably have 4 channel (2 fronts, 2 backs) sound output, directly to the stock amp using pins E1 through E7 and pin F1 (as detailed on the Monsoon amplifier pin diagram at http://www.houston-f-body.org/tech/monsoon/Firebird.htm)? I'm trying to do without the stock HU altogether since there won't be enough room in the dash for one after I stick the LCD in there (unless somebody knows of a suitable replacement head unit thats 1/2 DIN in size).

How do you have yours hooked up? Would getting a new amp with RCA connectors already on there be easier? Another idea thats floating around in my head is to stick the stock HU in some obscure location (like the trunk or something) and use one of the adapters at http://www.pie.net/sec12sb1m.htm to plug into the HU's CD changer port. I'm not too thrilled about that idea though because it doesn't seem quite as slick as ditching the stock HU entirely.

And on a side note, this post should probably be moved to a more suitable forum as it no longer has anything to do with LCD displays . I would've PM'd this, but I'm thinking this information would be valuable to lots of other people as well. Perhaps the moderators can step in and stick this post in the right forum. IIRC, there isn't even a forum dedicated to hooking carputers to the audio system

Well, you could get one of those RCA to OEM adaptors but it doesn't seem like it would be all that great. Unfortunately, even though it's a nice sound system, nothing is compatible with any of the parts, so probably the best option is to replace the amp too. I used a Hifonics Eagle which is very small but sounds good. Then Infinity Kappa components because they came with crossovers so I didn't have to deal with the seperate tweeter lines. You could just buy 4 crossovers and keep the delco speakers, connecting the tweeters to the midranges. The subs are now Rockford Fosgate Punch and the amp for those is a US Acoustics USX2100. That's way too big and hard to hide. It's zip-tied to my spare. It's really hard to find any kind of amp that can be hidden anywhere. From my experience, this car is probably the most painful if you just wanted to replace the HU.

OK, I could try and keep this on topic with another pic of my LCD?

Curiosity - where's your head unit located? Is it in the glove box, or did you replace it totally?

I replaced it totally. That's the reason for replacing the amp and speakers. If you remove the HU, then you need line level to the amp, then half the speakers are 2 ohm and well... Delco uh... so I just ripped it all out and would never go back.

Hi... I was working on mine for a while, but then I sold that car and bought another Trans Am... But this time, I bought a 2002 WS.6, so I don't plan to mod it all being that it's a collector's item. However, next month I'm getting a Corvette for my daily driving car and I'll be modding the crap out of it. This is the software I was working on before I sold my car. That was about 9 months ago. I'm going to start up on it again. I designed the GUI almost 90% in Bryce (in case you're wondering) since I needed animated water and the island spins! I'll be putting this in the Vette but with the same monitor setup.

(Hope my image attach works.)

As you can see, I'm not a great graphics artist... But I'm good at programming the engine that runs this, so I'll find someone to make me a gui.

I'm going to redo the faceplate where the oem stereo is, and moving the hvac controls down and angled...and I'm shoving a 8" screen in it. IF your willing to get rid of the hvac controls, you can do a 10.4"

I'm glad to see other FBody peeps here. I just bought a '99 30th Aniv. Pace Car In a few months its gonna need a new T6, but until then its fine. About to get my fiance a firebird also.

Werd

If you guys are looking for a good spot to place the amps (if you are replacing your factory HU), you should look at subthumps amp racks. He also makes some nice sub enclosures for the driver and passenger side spaces (for those of us with t-tops )

Amp Racks:
http://www.subthump.com/acamarorack.htm

All his Camaro/Firebird stuff:
http://www.subthump.com/acamaro.htm

I also plan on ditching the factory monsoon stuff as well. Too much work for not enough sound quality.

P.S. Any of you guys members on EFA?
