Is it just the older screens that need this mod done? I just got my Lilliput yesterday and the screen turns on automatically when I plug the power in. I was all ready to take the screen apart to do this mod too

I bought mine from Shillier, screen works great. So far, I haven't run into any problems that people are complaining about.

not so great if your converting it into a indash housing.. this would be the last thing u need.. the heat generated could burn sumot out when its shut inside.. lets hope not

You can always only allow it to turn on when the screen is out...by a microswitch perhaps

ack, my lilliput doesn't have that same bracket to ground to...the connector is ever so slightly diffrent. that bracket that coyote grounds to is actually inboard/on the connector itself on mine....think i could still ground it there?

Problem here, it could be slightly off topic but then again it could be on topic.
I've been trying to replace the round cable to a ribbon cable (trend these days =P) and suddenly my lilliput went crazy. Call me crazy, but does the 10 pin round cable thing have any effect on the powering up and down of the lilliput? I'm thinking, even if I mess up on the wiring here, it shouldnt affect the on switch right?
I didnt do this coyote's mod (yet).
I have the lilliput to turn on automatically by shorting the two ribbons much like what shakes did - except I did it on the ribbon.
Well after finishing my conversion.. and after applying power.. my lilliput turns on then off then on then off every second. The second its on I can catch a glimpse of "No Signal" and the desktop and it keeps going like this until I cut off the power. What's funny is, it does this even if I TAKE OFF the power-on-mod above. It has no effect!
Maybe I accidentally soldered somewhere but I cant find it maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
I took some measurements.. you know the circuit on page 1? Where coyote removed the resistor? Well I took an ohmic reading from the ground (as in pic) to the terminal (of the resistor that was removed - from the pic it would have been the other leg of the resistor which now sits alone) and its 0 ohms.. meaning that terminal is also ground.
Is that right?
That means, on coyote's schematic diagram.. that resistor on my lilliput is connecting the +5 to ground.. meaning the switch is always on. But how could it be always on when I'm not even pressing the power button?
Even if the switch is always on for some reason.. it shouldnt be going off and on and off and on right? Sometimes if I wiggle or just leave it alone it would display the desktop or the "no signal" for minutes or so.. which leads me to suspect the work on the ribbon cable.. but that leads me back to the first paragraph.
could anyone with a good electronics knowledge help me detect what is the problem? Maybe you could get the voltages on the terminals and compare with mine? I dunno.. its late midnight here now and I think I could use some sleep.
