Xenarc crappy connector!
Okay, the video input connector brok AGAIN. How did you guys circumvent this problem? The first time, the housing ripped from the circuitboard and took the wires off the traces with it. I re-soldered it and hot glued the housing back to the board. I haven't actually taken apart my car yet to see what happened this time but I know I hit a dip in the road and my video just died.
Help please!

Try to wire tie / zip tie the whole cable to the board a few inches from the connections, and maybe hot glue that. Or better yet, the outer casing. That way you get a lot of strain relief and the wires don't move around alot. Sound good?

hahahaha, sounds great but what's this "outer casing" of which you speak?
it's in there. There's nowhere on the board I'm comfortable drilling two holes to run a ziptie through either.

Take it out of your car and take some pictures. It is hard to guess what really happen. The connector could have just separated and not broke off.

Well, since it broke off the board completely the first time I had to fix it; it's a relatively simple assumption that it could easily happen again. I'll try to tear my car apart tomorrow and get some pictures. I gotta buy batteries for the digicam.
Thanks for all the quick responses, especially from Armen. You helped me out with my display ribbon cable.

No problem.
Depending on what broke this time I could have a spare part for you. I definitely have a new VGA cable.

it's not the cable. It's the chitty little connector on the board. When they started using the "heavy duty" connector, did they change the layout of the board that sits up off the main board?
I want this like the Ronco Rotisserie. You know, "set it and forget it!" I hate having to tear my dash apart time after time fixing something that never should have been a problem in the first place.

It is unfortunate that it has to be a pain. It probably took Gain a few years to update the design. Better late then never, I guess. I haven't seen any of the new ones so I am not sure how it is set up. I did see the big connector though (8" Lilliput is using it). I might have/or can get that small PCB with the connector, so let me know.

That would fuggin rock! I've seen some people's pictures and there's some sort of IC on their board. Mine's just got the video connector and a couple of multipin headers soldered through the board.

Look here

Isn't it this connector
The board looks diffrent in my Xenarc. But the connector is the same. I actually broke and resolder almost all pins because of a loose connector. And pins broke in different places but mostly on the elbow/corner. Last time after soldering I just glued it to the board.
digitalww, do you have spare connector like this. I would resolder again the entire thing and fix it to the board once and forever myself.

Shadow, are you sure there are no screws or anything that you could attach a strain relief to? I've seen these little nylon cable holders in the hardware store that are like a round C shaped thing with screw holes on them. You just slip it over the cable and screw it down somewhere, or maybe even tape it down. As long as you keep it from moving/pulling it's going to be a whole lot better.

I'm too lazy to fiberglass one into the side of the monitor housing. I tried high-temp ABS hot glue but I guess it didn't melt enough.
