Cool Bought 8.4" LCD Touch from eBay. HELP!

So I picked this up by chance the other day. . .

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/ebayISAPI.dll...tem=5702247347

With the touch overlay and lcd, I figured it would be a good deal. I asked the guy over email what he would take for one, and offered a large amount, but I think he misunderstood me, and sent me an INVOICE for one.

Not that I don't want it, I'm just not sure what I need to get it running. Any suggestions? PLEASE help point me in the right direction, this part of the description really sux:

"This auction is for the screen only. To hook it up you may need a lcd controller, inverter, and a touchscreen controller, depending on your level of technical skill."

What the heck does that mean? That's sort of shady.

Let me know what you all think, and I'll do the legwork.

All in all it's going to cost you around 250-300.

Find out from him the brand of the touchscreen and also the model # of the screen. Do the research and try to find the pinouts.

Then go from there.

that guy also sells the inverters and everything else that you need to get it running... i was looking at that before and was considering it but then i asked him how much it costed and it was kinda expensive so no... well i wouldn't pay that much for 800x600 resolution or wahtever it is... i think people mentioned him on this board a while back.. he used to sell kits and stuff

It's hardly shady, btw, he spelled out exactly what was needed in the description.

I have that screen in my Camaro, it's 640x480 max res. I don't know what's wrong with mine but the touchscreen is off on the left side of the screen and calibrating it does nothing to fix it. Also sometimes when the computer gets turned on, the screen does not turn on and I have to turn the computer off and back on again.. That started probably a year or so after I bought the screen.. I don't particularly care for the viewing angle too much either.. I got mine already assembled as part of a DennisK setup. Here's an old thread from him selling these from a while back with some info..

Dig around a little, Here's a controller you might be able to use. I just bought one of these, I'm going to try it on some 18 bit 80 x 600 panels I have. Also, don't forget the older video cards with the vesa output, you may be able to get that to work.

Thanx guys, I figure a lilliput is the only way to go if I'm going to spend freakin 280$ on the thing. Now I just need to get myself to spend that much. I may end up with just a PS1 converted to VGA, and later on a 100$ touch overlay/controller. Does anyone have any thoughts on how to do a touch setup cheaper? I've been looking, but nothing really conclusive. Perhaps this should be a new thread.

Chris - great idea. I never thought to look on ebay for those controllers. Looks cheap and promising. Let me know what you come up with, and if there's a thread on how to go about this testing process, as I'm not well versed on the subject. When it comes to LCD's, I couldn't find my a$$ with both hands and a map.

Here's a good place for info on lcd hookup. After i read this I looked in my junk pile and found 4 video cards with the vesa connector. It's only 256 colors but it's too cheap to ignore- Here's the thread for the vesa connector. Read through it, it gets good after the crappy translation work. Just have to keep digging

with these older cards, they have less vid ram. Will they be able to run divx/dvd's?

For dvds, anything under a 32MB nvidia based will die in slow motion like results, unless you use hardware rendering.

For divx those will play fine on just about anything... with some very rare exceptions due to bad encoding in the first place.

I've played some divx on my system, it has a CT 69000 2 meg LCD controller. The image quality is ok, not perfect but it's definitly watchable. It's a little grainy but it doesn't have any frame rate problems. I don't think the LCD I'm using is up to it, when I hook a CRT up the image is really nice. This is with an 800 pentium 3 based system with 256 megs of pc133

Getting back to the VESA header, I've seen these headers on video cards as new as an nVidia 32 meg TNT, my radeon 64 vivo has a place for a vesa header but it's not soldered in. Keep in mind that you may only get 256 colors.
