I did the same exact thing and so far it's been working well.
no real problems with my indash screen.

after the LCD screen is pulled out and in the vert. position, how much of a gap is there between the dash and the back of the LCD? Can it be pushed back flush against the dash when open?

The gap is fairly large, about 6 cm (2.5 "). You can push it back a bit by releasing two latches behind the LCD but it ain't easy and it's not designed for that. I'm not too crazy about the gap, it makes the mechanics a bit fragile.

The positive side of a large gap is that you can swivel the screen about 20 degrees either side.

The guy above what do you mean its not too easy to shorten the gap? I don't understand what you mean by that, when the screen comes fullout it is a few inches extended forward but you simply release those two locking tabs and push the screen back to shorten the gap. I mean I do this everytime I don't see what's so difficult about it.

Also to do the conversion is a little tricky, anybody want tips PM me.

It's tricky to get your fingers behind the screen to lift the hooks, especially if you have big hands or if you have equipment blocking the sides of the display. Also, the hooks don't feel like they will last all that long.

Hey, i just wanted to know how exactly the lilliput indash mod worked casing wise. Is it spring loaded/mechanical or do you just pull the LCD out when you want to use it ?

The TM-701L is spring loaded with a mechanism so that when you push it into the casing the screen clicks inside the case and then if you want to pull it out you push in a bit harder and screen springs out.

and (pictures borrowed off the digitalww.com site)

We'll see if this unit appears and at what price.

The DVD drive is a PC DVD drive to be connected via USB 2 so it IS the DVD rom drive for your PC nice and handy in your dash. the unit has just the touch screen and the DVD drive (+ butons and USB hub) it is not designed to be a stand alone DVD player.
