Angry never thought i'd be posting this...fried my lilliput

im a bit ****ed at myself...I finally got my 701L housing, and started putting my lilliput in it. what a PITA...

anyway. I finally finished, and tested it out, but everything was blurry, and there were some funky horizontal lines. I figured the vga signal was messed, so I re-did all the connections, then I hooked up the power...backwards. Now it wont turn on.

Anyone know what reversing the polarity fries?

Honestly, if I had to guess I would suspect that you killed a diode or multiple diodes. I don't own a lili, but from what I've read about them, much of the hardware is made quite cheaply. "Quality" hardware will use some diodes to prevent reverse voltage from damaging anything. Not-so-quality hardware will use sacrificial diodes that burn up when reverse voltage is applied. This forces you to send it in for repair, and then they would replace $0.50 worth of diodes, and send it back for $100 repair charge.
Just my thoughts

to say a lilli is made cheaply is putting it mildly. These things are absolute garbage. The input wires are soldered direct on the controller, and then a bead of hot glue is applied over the wires to help prevent movement. The soldering loks like 5 year olds did it. Now a xenarc uses a nice smt connector, and although I would not call a xenarc a quality unit either (but definately better than lilli) they are assembled better.
I have a few lilli's in for repairs right now, and after looking at several different units, and from what I have found out on the web, these units are using touch lcd panels pulled from used pachino machines.
Another problem seems to be heat. Very minimal cooling, and I think this is contributing to the large number of failed units. This has been evident on most of the units I have opened. The lcd panels show signs of excessive heat, and the controllers always look burned. Of course, the lcd panels are also dirty from being pulled, so the heat damage may have been from the pac machines.
All in all, the old saying is still true...you get what you pay for.
I understand most people who buy these monitors are on strict budgets, but I feel saving for a quality monitor is better in the long run.
buying a 280.00 unit, having it fail in 2-3 months, and then replacing it is like spending the same money on a high quality monitor.
just my opinion, but I have always believed that there are some things you should just spend the extra $$ on.
why buy it twice?

im thinking about getting the xenarc...very tempted...the conversion into the in dash housing seems easier too. But for the same price (a few bucks more), I can get the 701L + lilliput already installed...which means no risk for me.

too bad you live in the US. I've been assembling TM701=L + lilliput for about USD$450 for a couple of people. Unfortunately the shipping to US would cost you about $30+ extra.

there is a fuse on the left of the power connector.
if the lilliput does not power on , look that the fuse is not burned

sorry for the translation :-(
