8.4" touchscreen non-widescreen please read!

If it fitted in your dash, would you take a 8.4" touchscreen that is not widescreen with a NATIVE resolution of 640x480 or you'd stick with a 7" widescreen?

The reason I ask is that the widescreen's native resolution of 800x480 can only be achived with certain chipsets or adding a video card (on an epia for example) and it's really the main concern I have for my planned setup.

I really don't want to run 848x480 when most I read here says it looks bad, and 800x600 you compress the height of your images, right? (means your widescreen dvds have black borders)

I'm thinking putting a Lilliput 8.4" normal touchscreen running native resolution of 640x480 which ALL on board video can output without problem...

Do you think it's the best solution? For sure a regular screen doesn't look as cool as a widescreen, but 48 pixels munched doesn't appeal to me.

So everybody are using lilliputs/xenarc and epias and you run 800x600 or 848x480 and it's not that bad??

I run my 8.4" at 800x600 and love it

It's your car, it's your screen, it's your eyes. Do what's best for you.
Sometimes space is an issue, that's where the idescreens really shine because there aspect ratio. I just didn't see a need to have a 16:9 display in the car. But that *my* taste

well 16:9 with black borders when you look a widescreen movie because it's 800x600 is not very interesting
