Display OBD info on Serial LCD ? is this possible

Hiya all smart people !

I am dreaming of a new carputer feature

Since some of us have OBD interfaces and I will soon, as I am waiting for my local supplier to get me deltadash from ecutek, living 10 000 miles from civilisation sucks I want to know if I can display the Deltadash parameters on an lcd while I have Frodoplayer or ME running as the main application.

I have looked at matrixorbital / lcd smartie / lcdc etc and I think its possible but how would I get the info from Deltadash to the LCD application ?

Then the next bit is i would like this info displayed in a HUD

Which LCD / VFD should I get ? and has anyone else done this ?

I'm curious about this myself, as I'ld like that.
Ideally, using a function to change the LCD so it runs through stats from ODB-II (engine stats, temps, realtime mileage, etc.) on an LCD/VFD.

exactly and perhaps to display it on the windshield as well and then perhaps scroll the song / radio station every few seconds as the vga monitor will be displaying visual effect or rearview cam / bumper cam etc

Anything is possible, it's just how much time and money you want to devote to the project.

With that in mind, this project could definitely be done. You will need a firm understanding of ODBII and it's protocols. Once you do interfacing it should be "fairly" simple.

The only VFD's that I've come across(I wasn't looking) were crystalfontz.com The disadvantage would be that all chars would need to be reversed be cause of the mirroring of the image to display on windshield. No character LCD's I have run across support more than 8 custom characters. This doesn't even allow for 0-9 to display digits. Since you have or plan to use a pc I'd recommend an off the shelf scan tool for this type or prect as it's the easiest and cheapest route. Learning curve is GREATLY reduced too

I plan using Ecutek delta dash, getting it to display on my pc is easy, getting the info from delta dash to the lcd is were I see a problem
